Adam, speaking of electrics being the future of RC aviation,, did you watch the video's of my 54" pylon racer? That's a glow to electric conversion. Using a HXT42-50 motor, a dewalt 123cell 6 cell pack, and an APC 11x9 prop. Motor, $35, battery pack $56 (My buddy got two dewalt packs for $85 each & made 3 six cell packs & has two spare cells), towerpro 70 amp speed controller $40, so if you ignore the servos & other common gear between gas & electric, my power system on that plane is $130. Although if you count the battery as the fuels source & remove that from the equation, it was $75. And now, they say these A123 cells can go through 1000 charge cycles, that brings the cost per flight down to $.06 Way better than Li-po. I really think that I'm going to get a couple of the dewalt packs & build my own. These are on loan to me to test out for one of my club members. I'm going to be able to do some side by side comparisons pretty soon once the battery packs I bought from Doug show up. We'll get to see how Thunderpower 5 cell lipo (21 volts) 4200 mah, compares to 6 cell 123cells (21.6 volts) 2300 mah. Less flight duration with the Dewalt packs, but a longer overall battery life. Although I won't be taxing the Thunderpower packs much either, 36 amps from a 4200 pack is only a 8.5C discharge rate from a pack that's rated for 15c continous (63 amps). FUll throttle of 7 minutes to cut off, versus 4 minutes with the Dewalts. But both of the dewalts together have a value of around $112 where if I was to purchase the Thunderpower packs new it would be around $250 (Doug, thanks again for the bargian!!!) At the moment I'm mostly hoping that the thunderpower packs will fit into the plane.

Sray and Carl, Yes, I SHOULD be in Orllando on Monday morning. Carl, it would be great if you could make it again. I was quite dissappointed that I didn't make it last week. Oh, the rigors of holiday times in the food market. Very unpredictable. Things will settle into a wonderfully dull, boring routine now until May.

Me thinks it's a wonderful day for some flying. Whoda thunk Jan 3rd would be such a georgeous day in Pennsylvania.

Ta-ta, old thread. Oh, that reminds me. Omei, I really like your avatar.[sm=tongue_smile.gif] Smilies Gone Wild!!

Bald Eagle,

There is Plaque on the moon with my dad's name on it, along with all the others that worked on the L.E.M.

See if you can zoom in and see it. His name is Francis LeRoy Smith. Hee Hee Hee!

As embarrasing as it sounds I just dumb-thumbed the Brio while doing an Inverted pass in front of me and a couple of onlookers. I should have known I would do that because it was just after a young kids says "Man that's Cool".

Fern,

ORIGINAL: carlf
FAF, Since you like the smaller planes, you might want to look into the smaller GWS Picco Stick... I believe it is a SS but smaller! A small ball field or park would be fine for either!
Here is a link, Check it out! http://www.flyingmodels.org/projekt/...ck/index_e.htm
Thanks Pappy I'll see if I can find a few!

I might as well go ahead and make my last post. I got a new lightflightrc rx for $30. 8 channel dual conversion, 3,000 ft range. Hopefully its as good as it says.

Good bye part one...
