Tiger Moth a good buy???
The Tiger Moth comes only with the kit and the motor.
You will have to furnish seperately:
Battery
Servos
ESC
Radio System (Transmitter, Receiver)
Battery Charger (make sure compatable with Battery)
The Moth is a slowflyer. The controls are rudder and elevator. There have been many people who have learned to fly on a Tiger Moth. Wait until a calm day (no wind) for your first flights.
Your best bet for a trainer would be if you had a local electric club close by to help you. You will get the best information from them.
Good Luck.

Tiger Moth a good buy???
The GWS Tiger Moth is a wonderful plane that is very stable during flight, and it's slow (which is good when you are learning.) If you have to teach yourself to fly, make sure you fly in a field with grass, about 1/2" tall would be ideal. This way, if the plane hits the ground, the damage will be minimum.
Go ahead and get this plane, a lot of people like the plane, and people are using the same motor/gearbox/propeller that comes with the Tiger Moth to power other planes. The motor/gearbox/propeller combination is a VERY good one because it provides good amount of thrust, its quiet, reliable, and cheap.
You will not be disapointed with this plane!
Enjoy,
Flying Cat

Tiger Moth a good buy???
SAVE $20.00!!!
Get the GWS Slow Stick! Flies fater & slower then the Moth. Fater build. Can be built with in 1 hour, and that's moving slow. Can loop from level fligth, fly inverted and can glide around the sky for along time. I've been using mine as a camera plane. This thing can carry some weight. I can rog from the street, dirt and small grass. The plane, motor, gearbox is all for $35 at www.littleshopofhobbies.com! I use the Focus 3am with HAS RX and 2 HH55s servos. You can get this radio for $65. One great bird!

Tiger Moth a good buy???
Hey everbody I got yet another question. My brother is telling me that the elevators on the tiger moth and pico cub dont move together he says that they are only there to make the plane roll and, the motor controls the altitude is he right??? If he is right does that make it harder to control the plane.

Tiger Moth a good buy???
darenm is absolutely correct.
The Tiger Moth has Throttle control for speed, Elevator control for up and down, and rudder control for left and right. It is a three channel system.
Your Brother is thinking of the "Firebird" which is also yellow. This is a $100 toy which controls its up and down by the amount of throttle. It is not a standard R/C unit (like the Tiger Moth) and lets you develope habits which you have to "unlearn" when you go to a "regular" R/C system.
IMHO you will be better off in the long run to learn to fly with a Tiger Moth.

Your bro is right (sort of) latch is wrong
SPUD,
NOW HOLD ON A MINUTE!!!!!!
As with ANY PLANE the elevator is the control for pitch- pitch changes speed. Point the nose down at any given throttle setting, you WILL go faster!! Point the nose up at any given power setting, you WILL go slower!! IN FACT UNLESS YOU HAVE UNLIMITED POWER, YOU WILL EVENTUALLY STALL THE PLANE THIS WAY, AND THEN-YIKES!
Throttle or, power controls ALTITUDE.(Try going up without the motor running).
Planes CAN be flown with throttle and rudder only- it is how I teach my students to fly. Control of elevator is included but not as a primary control, until later.
HOWEVER- Build the plane as per the instructions and use elevator, throttle, and rudder.
I wouldn't recommend the Firebird, or anything like it for training, because the radio is not set up like a convetional R/C radio, and this is what you would have to "unlearn".

jettstarblue is correct in the statement that increasing the throttle will make an airplane rise, and decreasing the throttle will make it drop. It will drop much faster when it's speed drops below the stall speed.
The Firebird only relys on throttle to be able to "rise and fall" it does not have elevators. You cannot adjust your altitude with the Firebird unless you adjust the throttle. This is not the case with the Tiger Moth. You can fly a Tiger Moth at any given speed above stall speed and be able to adjust your altitude by adjusting the elevator.
Good Luck on your Tiger Moth. You should enjoy it very much.
