RE: ParkZone NEW FW-190 Butcher Bird
My friend and fellow gravity teaser has been flying the PKZ P-51 and a new F-86 electric ducted-fan. He said that it is a RUSH to fly. I'm sure I can hadle the FW as long as it is set up properly and tossed preciecely.

i tried the eflite 10x8 (the one that comes with the p47) on a bl setup and picked up about another 5 mph in pitch speed...

RE: ParkZone NEW FW-190 Butcher Bird
We had a great day to fly on Christmas day our favorite field in beautiful Litchfield.
My friend Flying Guy and I put up our Super Cubs and then our J3 Cubs. I then brought out my FW that I spent days prepping and reinforcing the fuse with fiberglass and breaking in the motor. I was ready to go. I offered it to the gods and was immediately rejected. It went to the ground perfectly. Too perfectly. The elevator was reversed. The arm on the servo was 180 degrees off. Easy fix and no damage. Ready to go again. She flew straight and was climbing out. I turned right and got about 90 degrees in the circuit at about 100 yards down range...that's when the brain went to sleep! It rolled over and I SPAZZED AND OVER CORRECTED AND THEN HAD TO RESPOND TO THAT OVER CONTROLL INPUT AND....well...it ended up just like alot of the real FWs did inWWII. BROKEN AND UPSIDE-DOWN in a muddy hayfield. If anything it was historically accurate.
I'll fix it up and try to get it up this weekend if the weather holds. All I can say is it was not pretty

I am also holding out for the maiden flight on this bird. Working on fabricating a prototype langing gear, front and rear.
Since it is winter and there is no grass, belly landing this plane on a rocky dirt field would be unwise. The wing or the fuse would ding for sure. I am planning to hand launch it but it must land on wheels.
I am pretty good with my super cub and with my typhoon but for some reason intimidated by this FW-190, but I want to fly it so bad.
Did do a motor break -in , will see if it makes any difference.

Did you have any defects on it? Or is it just giving it more power...?

Heya Solar, im sorry if i missed any previous post by you but what battery are you using? Lipo?
I was very imtimidated hand launching the plane as well but the plane is not that bad, open up the throttle and just give it a pretty solid yet hard throw - and yeah a lot of people say throw at an even horizontal angle but for some reason mine really dips a LOT (maybe it's because I'm hella short? lol) when I do this so I throw mine with a slightly higher angle, this seems to allow my plane to yes dip a bit "more" but gives her speed to pull up...of course this all attempted at low rates.
Good luck! and I wanna see the landing gear pix when you get that done, I'd working on getting that EMI P-38 and i'm curious how the rudder is setup, the FW190 has so much more room to work with and it'll prolly be easier to see how it's setup...

Photo of converted spinner to accomodate Ramoser prop.
The pink foam supports a ring of 3.5oz e-fiberglas to strengthen
the outer circumference of the spinner prior to the cutout for the
three blades. The cylindrical aluminum cap secures the spinner
base to the Ramoser hub.

RE: ParkZone NEW FW-190 Butcher Bird
here some pictures of the proto-type landing gears.
i am looking for something simple, lite, not fancy, but it has to be functional.
for now, all held on with tape for testing purposes.
the back one is solid, rolling straight.
The front is too weak, it folded back on mildly harsh landing. It may need a small brace going backward from each leg and screwed to the plastic underwing with aluminum screws or have to use heavier wire.
Here is how the maiden flight went.
started out as lite wind, by the time I got to the park (at the lake front) the wind was blowing pretty hard.
On the ground, pointed the plane into the wind , full throttle, the FW got airborne in about 25 feet (=garage length) immediately started to climb at a high angle.
I flew the plane pretty much at full throttle, at low rate throw.
It is very pitch sensitive.
The wind was even more gusty at higher altitude, the plane was all over the place. did a few laps with it and about 3-4 minutes into the flight the low battery warning started to beep on the transmitter. So much for the brand new parkzone AA batteries, hah?
I decided to land it immediately, pointed the plane into the wind and descended smoothly.
The plane landed fairly nice on the hard dirt road but the front wheels folded backward. this 1/8!QUOT! wire is too weak.
got to use harder steel wire something with more spring properties.
here are the pictures.
The wire on the front is attached to the plastic (underwing) only. the wheels are dou-bro.

RE: ParkZone NEW FW-190 Butcher Bird
Nice work everyone with the Fw-190 mods. I like a landing gear too, but I would like them to retract. Some guys have done this on the P-51. It's a lot of work though. I hope that Horizon is listening and watching so they will come out with new wings for these birds with retracts. And the three blade props look great too!
I am keeping my hopes up that maybe 2007 Horizon may offer a wing with retracts. If folks like to have a gear, we should all request them from Horizon. It is easy to contact them on their site. I am waiting for the Spitfire to come out in the US and chase my Fw-190! (out in the UK on Dec 18) It looks like Parkzone is going to the same setup in the Typhoon, which means normal servos and and Rx. Not sure if the US version will do this. This would make it easy for them to add a gear retract! This would also make it easy for the warbirds to come out in a PnP setup. 2007 is going to be another exciting year.
Happy New Year!

Haven`t flown it yet, other mods to come.
Carbon fiber/kevlar honeycomb engine mount which will also
be the battery tray combination.
This will move the battery forward to allow good range of CG
adjustment. Will probably neccesitate a lower cowling hatch
made of satin e-glas. This will put the battery mass right in
line with the chord of the wing rather than up high in the
fuselage which promotes less "pendulum" stability.
Stay tuned !

RE: ParkZone NEW FW-190 Butcher Bird
Hey, I just got a Li-Po battery for Christmas and I need some help....
If anyone here charges their Li-Po batteries with the alligator clips, do you just plug them into your car battery. Because if you do, that seems like it would become kind of annoying after a while.... I have already sodered the charger to be compatible with my battery, so I just need to know if that is the only way to charge the batter...
Thanks for all of your help!

RE: ParkZone NEW FW-190 Butcher Bird
HI, sorry, not really following your question.
Are you asking if the charger 12 volt input will be connected to a car battery?
(Not directly to the Lithium-poly cell itself of course, just want to be clear)
The charger input will go to a 12 volt DC source, typically a car battery or in more
sophisticated shops a filtered power supply.
[I use a large 12 volt gel cell, (looks like the size of a car battery) on my workbench.
I charge the gel cell and then I use my charger to charge my Lithium-Poly cells.
The gel cell is charged with a standard automotive charger then I can run my
Lithium Poly charger from the gel cell after I disconnect the automotive charger.
With this method the charger receives a pure DC source and operates the way it would in the field.
From what I understand the Lithium Poly cells have a multi-pin balancer plug which connects
to the charger. This balancing plug allows the individual cells within the pack to
charge with the charger taking account of each cell individually to ensure that they
are balanced and charged accurately to insure this balance.
Hope this helps, andrew

To charge your Li-po you should have a li-po specific charger and a cell balancer. the balancer is not absolutely nessesary but a good thing to have.
You can plug your li-po charger directly to the car battery if the charger is powered by 12 Volt.
You CAN NOT plug your li-po battery directly to a car battery, it would be instant fire /explosion due to the large ammount of current traveling to your new li-po battery. you can only charge li-po with 1C , that means 1x its capacity rating. example a 1800 Mah battery should be charged no more than 1.8 amp
