Default Firebird Phantom problems?

I am on my third Phantom because of problems with the electronics in the thing. The first two developed a control problem after a couple of flights where the plane would take off ok gain altitude and then head to the left and down no matter what input you gave it then would promptly crash. The second plane I had, the first flight went really well and the second flight was not bad but on the third flight it started messing up and you couldn't control it. I guess that is why you always take 2 or 3 planes with you when you go out to fly!! I said o-well and just flew the super cub the rest of the evening...the light module is pretty cool for flying at dusk![8D]

The one bad thing is that the phantom doesn't have servos per say. I had thought about trying to replace what it had with nan or micro servos and see if I could get that to work but it is too easy to send it back and get a new plane but I might try it if this new plane screws up.

hello !!

Are you using the ACT ?? I never use that because it override the pilot input on TX and do wathever the bird want to do.

I have almost same issue as you.. my first phantom after 3rd flight I was doing a preflight test and suddenly the elevators went crazy and start moving very quickle in smoke start to coming out.. I send it back for warranty and resive a new fuselage with electronics. I few today my 2nd phantom. everithing ok but is glitchin a little. noyhing to worried I trim a little and the glitching went off.

I love this little phantom is so fast for so little bird that I just love it...

You want a cool tip.. I use the Aerobird SWIFT tail wheel on the phantom. looks great and no more tail touching ground. the next step will be some foam front wheel.

is there a way to place usable landing gear on the phantom without making it too heavy? I'd like to start doing some takeoffs/landings with the bird but the landing gear HZ provides is too weak. thanks!

I buy the SWIFT front wheels to use them on my Phantom. But the landing wire is a little bit smaller in the part that plug on body .. I will have to bend a little to fit them. they are foam wheels. I planing to change wheel because I Take off from sand and sometime the little factory wheel are too small and get stok into the sand.

No I don't use the act on the phanotm or super cub it is way too limiting and doesn't always save your tush anyway! I haven't had a chance to fly the third phantom yet. I haven't even flown my swift yet I have had it for months now. Rock crawling is the thing right now you can do it now matter what the weather or wind. I would have thought that if the act would have been on it would have straightened out and turned up to flaten it out. But it did the opposite and went left and down to the ground! We will see if the new one does better.

renegadelogger :

you have almost same hangar as mine.. I hqave the swift, the supercub, and phantom just like you also I have the slo-v , focus400ep, cessna 745, airhog, blade cx2, walkera #4, walkera 22e. and few more.. look at the photo..

Like you I got my SWIFT for about 3 or 4 month and have take only 4 try to flew.. without succes. is difficult to get the SWIFT to the air ,, have the tendance of wing stall when try to launch it.. I dont like too much the swift is a stress flyer.. and not like all other plane I have all of them are stressout flyer .

I try the PHANTOM today with new wheel (Swift Set) and is just awesome ... she runs in ground very smooth and faster I can lift up with 1/2 distance that I use to lift with stock wheel. also the tail wheel will smooth even more the ride on the ground. I change tail wing arms 1 hole inside and the phantom now have incredible sharp turns.. this likttle bird is just awesome. I buy this one for my wife to learn but I am afraid to let she fly this Little Bird. its me and I have several crash since is fast and make sharp turn. I think I will teach her with the SuperCub is the most easy plane ever flew.

thanks for the info dax. And nice hangar, too. I'll give the Swift landing gear a shot. Did you have to trim the phantom at all when testing out the new gear?

Also, I have to disagree with what's been said about the ACT. The ACT really helped me in flying my phantom--it saved me from many nearly-fatal crashes. The trick is to get the bird up pretty high, I'd say 120 feet+, to practice your skills. The height will allow time to correct an uncontrolled dive and the ACT is there to back you up. I don't fly with the ACT anymore, but I would recommend the option to any new pilots out there. just my 2 cents.

And if someone knows of a wireless video recorder small enough to fit on a phantom, let me know. I'd like to do some aerial videos with the phantom!!!

Thanks guys
Mike

ACT in fact it works correct BUT you say it !! needs high altitud to works correctly and have the space she needs to vorrect any problem.. my issue is that I like to fly a little wild , low altituds. and the field I use is small.

but yes if you are learning to fly just climb up there and use ACT in the highs..

I change again the tail wheel I keep the same wire but put a foam wheel from an old tail wheel from the SuperCub. whith the wheel mod you will take out that toy look that have the Phantom, now looks more like an Rc Plane and not a Toy Plane.
