Default 5th channel and xport mods and ideas for use

i thought it would be nice to have a place to post ideas just for the 5th channel and xport. so lets see if we can get a gathering of all the mods and home built uses for these. maybe someone would want to do a step by step for the flaps mod. but here was the idea i had that got this started.

so i was in my room tonight looking for something new to work on when i glanced apon a foam glider( throw and go type) when i got the idea to use my trojan as a tow plane. i originally was going to put some mini storm launcher electronics in the foam glider but now i think it would be alot of fun to tow it up to height with the trojan, and have a 5th channel controlled servo to release the tow line so that it glides back down. one thing i may want to do is to put a single channel control for steering in it so that i can prevent it from gliding off into some treetops. but just a thought i had. if i put it into works i will post in here with the details of the build with some pics. lets here some other ideas guys. im also curious as to if its possible to use the xport for more than the things made for it, such as wiring a servo to it somehow and whatnot. not sure of its limitations, thanks guys, chris

Default RE: 5th channel and xport mods and ideas for use

hey guys i had another outlandish idea. i was thinking of having some type of anti crash parachute on the trojan, and if by some chance theres a loss of control up at height or anything of that nature should happen have a parachute that can deploy to allow it to just float down safely. i started drawing the plans for how it could work. as of now im thinking that when the switch it hit the servo will pop open a latch that allows the parachute to deploy, and when the switch is flipped again the servo will pull a release pin that releases the parachute if needed. sounds odd or undoable but ive got the hardest details worked out for it. i could prolly explain in better detail but i just woke up. ill post back with my progress.

i also quickly pondered the idea of having a set of elevator flaps that could retract outward during inverted flight that could hold it in a level inverted flight without the need for elevator inputs. just a thought, chris

If you make the parachute recovery system that is deployed by a signal from the TX, it won't help if you lose control of the plane due to TX/RX problems... It would help if you lose orientation or flight control servo problems, but you'd need to have it failsafe to the deploy position if you want it to help with a loss of control. The Spektrum receivers let you set the failsafe positions of some of the channels when binding, but I'm not sure if you can do it to all of them. It might work better with the Xport, but I'm not sure what that does when you lose reception.
