Low Wing Skimmer success story

When the ad said it would take a week to build this plane...yep....that's for sure! I thought I would never get done..
But...what a great flying airplane. This is supposed to be a "motor powered glider" but there's more motor and power than glider probably because of the extra large landing gear I installed and some other drag inducing things sticking out here and there. Was it worth the work? Dang betcha'! This plane is a major hoot to fly. It rises off the dirt in less than ten feet. Climbs quickly and will fly inverted, loop, do outside loops, and I even did a climb while inverted because I was too close to the ground to get the plane back up to flip it over! I'm using a Astro A20 motor and 1500 mah 7.4 volt li-poly battery and the plane generally runs at 50% power. It will take off at only around 60% power. Flight times have been around ten minutes, but I should be able to stretch that to 20 or so when I learn how to manage the power a little better. This is a balsa kit that makes the builder do plenty of work...not your basic ARF. One guy said, "It's an Almost Ready to Build" kit. I had to cut extra air scoops to cool this motor and battery. This plane lands very nicely, but watch out for tip stalls! See the pics and some notes below: |
