Looks like this will be a minor building project me over the winter (if you can call it that in Florida...). The Hobby Lobby site doesn't seem to carry the reduction gear or ESC they recommend, so I'm looking for a recommendation for motor/reduction gear/ESC. Did you ever get it built, and if so what did you power it with? I have a bunch of 900mah LiPos that I was going to use in parallel, 11.1v, but have no idea on the power plant. I was also going to add ailerons. I ultimately would like to add some floats and fly it off the small lake behind our house, so I want enough power to do that as well.

You could get power equivalent to a 400 with a 40g /120W motor, but you need some nose weight, so I'd choose a 70g motor with 200W+ capability and a 25A-30A ESC [that will still be lighter than the 400 and Mini-Olympus]. A Suppo A2217-8T (~1175Kv) [or the BP equivalent] would be happy with a 9x5 GWS HD (180W, 35oz thrust), or a 10x6 GWS HD (222W, 40oz thrust).. those would certainly pull it off the water... but if you don't want to use a gentle thumb on the left stick, fit an 8x4 GWS HD.
