Default AK Models Simple Flier

You know...the one that's in Real Flight G2. Does anyone have the real one? If it flies like the one in G2 then who needs a trainer? I just started playing around with it and fell in love. I cranked up the aileron throws and now it does rolls almost faster than you can see. Then it still slows down and lands I think better than the trainer models. Plus it looks like an F-18 when you're on final approach. The V-tail looks great. The big problem is the price. $95.00 + shipping. If it came with the hardware like say a Sig then it wouldn't be quite so bad. It only comes with the landing gear wires though. I knew I should have bought one when they were $70.00 on eBay. Wanted to find out just how good they flew first. Any owners out there?

Just in case anyone has thought about getting one now's the time. I e-mailed the company about my concern over the price, comparing it with the Sig S.E. and its inclusion of all the hardware. I got a response. He lowered the price! It's now on eBay starting at $63.95 with a buy it now of $73.95 I need to wait for one more sale of my car stuff so I can start bidding on one. He has several on a "dutch" auction. I you have Real Flight G2 you might want to check this thing out.

Almost forgot the auction I.D.: Item # 1729755861

I this tread is old, but just so you know I am building a ak models mig 29 and love it. The price is worth it. The wood is great, everything fits perfect, and the model is just looking sweet. He is also very nice and has e-mailed me back right away when I have had questions. Let me know if you get a simple flyer, because I also love how it flies on the program.

Default AK Models Simple Flier

Hi everyone,
I'm currently building a Simple Flier, I purchased mine on Ebay for $55 plus postage. There is currently 10 up for Dutch auction.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1779322922

I'm going to power mine with a TT .46Pro or Irvine .53.

I would be keen to hear from anyone else who has or is building the Simple Flier.

Cheers Barry.

Default AK Models Simple Flier

C'mon guys. Is Barry the only one out there with a Simple Flier?
I have too many other things to work on right now but I always seem to go to the S.F. when I got on Real Flight. For me it's simply the best flying plane period. I just want to know that the real one flies pretty close before I order the kit.

Default SF still in the box ...

I keep starting other projects! I also love the way the plane flies on G2. AK says the real one flies just like the sim.

Default Simple Flier

I'm building one. It should be finish sometime in May 2003. The plans are terrible for a newbie plank flyer like me. I got so pissed off from the plans that I threw them out and decided to improvise the whole building process.
I made some changes in the process.

Default New instructions.....

AK has put together a new manual for the Simple Flier. It is available as a free download on his website. Much improved, provides some nice details and more construction photos. Looks like yours is coming along nicely! Keep us posted on your progress. We love photos!

Default AK Models Simple Flier

I've noticed that the Simple Flier graphic on Real Flight does not exactly match the plane's parameters. The plane is setup using a constant cord with with a 7 degree sweep back and no dihedral. The graphic seems to show a straight, or near straight, TE and a swept LE. The is also no V-Tail configuration in the setup parameters.

Here is real flight specs:
length - 48 in
span - 51 in
area - 408 in^2
weight 3.82 lb
loading 21.6 oz/ft/ft

AK models:
length 52 in
span - 56 in
area - 610
dry weight 5.1 lb
loading 19.2 oz/ft/ft

So does the model fly the same as on Real Flight?

While I am a bit behind in finding this post, I am currently flying one, and it does fly like the sim. At least mine does!

I have mine set up with flaps and am running a O.S. 45fsr with a 11x6 APC prop. It is my favorite plane!

Later!

Hi there. I am in the process of building a Simple Flyer (see picture). I am at the point where I am going to start covering it. I have had two issues with it. The first is the V tail set up with the servos. The plans tell you to hook up the nose gear push rod to the rudder servo. If you do that the nose gear will turn with elevator input as well as rudder input. I installed a mini servo for the throttle and used the installed rudder servo for the nose gear. A simple mix in my 8U radio solved the problem. Next is the balance point. the plans call for 3.5" behing the leading edge at the fuselage. It seem to far forward to me. Is anuyone out there flying one? If so where did it balance?

Hey Bassman, Nice plane. I just bought a kit from AK.

I Just got married not long ago,so it will be a little while
before I build it. Probably this summer.
I will be looking forward to hear about your first flight.

Hey! that looks just like mine! Great minds think alike? or is it that we just too lazy to think up other colors and copy the prototype! [sm=bananahead.gif]

Anyway, those colors do stand out when flying. Still having fun flying mine!

I finally made it out and got my Simple Flyer into the air. Three flights. This is a nice flying plane. I only had to reduce the elevator travel a little to make it really smooth. The plane did everything I wanted except knife edge. I made just need a little more practice with it but it seems that the V tail may not be easy to knife edge with. Really easy take offs and landings. And it really drew attention. It was nice to be at the club with a unique airplane.

Congrats Bassman! [8D]

It is fun having a unique plane at the field. Been flying mine for over a year now, and it stills draws comments. Unfortunatly, [sm=bananahead.gif] I won't be the only one with one, another club member is currently building one.

As to knife edge, that plane will never do unlimited knife edge, those large fins seem to overpower the rudders. Best I can do with mine is to start with a very slight climb, roll over 90 degrees, and hold it there for the length of the field with full rudder. It will stop climbing and start a very slight descent during the pass. But it does it well!

T&G's are fun! Especially with flaps!

I have been flying the SF for a while now. I have found that the 46 just wasn't getting it up to the speed it looks like it should reach. I have rengined it with the new Magnum 52. Man is it a rocket now!!! I am running a 10-7 prop on the 52 and it is just what this plane needed. I am still working on props and can probably tweek a little more out of it. I hope to get a radar gun down to the field. If I do I'll let you know just how fast it is.

Was wondering if it was a easy build.Downloaded the instructions from AK-models and had a look. Also did anyone use the flaps or did they install the servos in the wing and use full span ailerons.I really like the way this plane flies in G3 and was considering building it.

It flys better in real life than is does in the simulator. It's not a bad build. If you have built any other kits this one should not be a problem. Take a look at the earlier parts of this thread and you will hear about some of the issues. I have a second kit I am planning to build sometime soon. The radio gear installation is tight in the fuselage. I used the full span alierons With wing mounted servos and it worked out great. Next time I might try the flaps just for fun.
