Dudin - try a 13 x 4, 13 x 5 or 14 x 4

Well... My little 4 banger experiment is comming to a close.... I ran it again friday... Nothing but trouble.... This damn thing just wants to vibrate like hell in the low end.... I'm going to try two different kinds of fuel in it... some YS 20/20 and some good ol 10/20...

If that doesn't work, off it comes, and on goes a Webra .50.

Just curious, you guys do tighten the valves right when you get the motor right? You need to do it right when you get the motor, and after 1hour or so of run time/break in you need to readjust the valves again.

I did this with my Saito 72 and it runs smoother then any motor I have ever owned, no vibration at ALL and INSTANT throttle transition, comparable or better then YS 63 IMO.

Hhhmmm..Well, if a light wood prop wouldn't spool up any quicker than an APC 14X4W, I'd say your engine is not right.

Vibration of my Saito 82 does seem to decrease after it's broken in about 1 gallon.

Keep us posted on the 82. Mine is still sitting in box waiting on me to finish a Sledge. My Sledge building got sidetracked while I built a Burrito. The Burrito sure went together a lot easier than the Sledge. That's not a slam on the Sledge, I am scratch building it. If I had built it from a kit I may have finished it by now.

I thought the 82 might swing a 15x4 Zinger - maybe not. The Webra is running good, but with an APC 12.25x3.75 it does not transition as fast as the YS 63 with a 14x4 Zinger that I have on my EF Edge. I may not have it adjusted right yet. It's not a new engine, but I put a different prop and muffler on it when it went on the Burrito.

Well... My buddy adjusted my valves a little and I ran some YS 20/20 in it last night... We leaned the low end and it's definiately running better.... I wish the thing would just crap out so I could bolt up my two stroke... But it's doing okay.. So I'm gonna leave it for now....

If you throw the 82 away, throw it towards Wisconsin...

Hey Paul,

Any more news on your 82? I was going to get an Extreme Flight Edge and bolt one on, but now am thinking another engine might be a better choice.

I finally sold mine..... Frustrating to find the sweet spot... but it had gobs of power....

Over all, I'd have to say it was a pretty good motor... I just like the throttle transition of my two strokes better. I'm just not really a 4 stroke kinda guy...

Just kidding, I had a YS on my EF and was not at all comfortable with it on that plane.

Thanks, Paul. I just sent a message to my buddy (Frankenthumb here) who has a 72 on his EF Edge. I hadn't noticed vibration problems with his, so maybe a 72 would be a better match. I've got all 2-strokes right now but just love the sound and torque of 4-strokes. I guess we're on opposite ends of that spectrum

The torque is pretty good.... Really helps when you're TRing 'er on the deck..... The problem I was having was that the midrange was messy between 1/4 and 1/2 throttle... right in the harrier range... You need a little more.. you put in just a hair bit of throttle... and nothing... you give a little more... nothing.... a little more.. and now it's too much... [:@] Just not clean enough for me.

I just had my 2nd flying session with my EF 540 with the Saito 91 on the nose. I'm finally starting to get into this bird. With the 46 on it I was losing interest in flying it.

I didn't really think the vibrations were too bad. I epoxied hardwood mounts to the stock composite mounts and I'm swinging a Zinger 14x4 prop. The instant throttle response is killer with that prop.

Anyone have pics of how you're reinforcing the engine mounts? How far back are you running the hardwood pieces?

I cut away the covering on any wood that would touch my hardwood rails and ran the mounts almost the full length of the stock mount. It is epoxied on the tail end and 2 sides of the hardwood rail...anyplace it touches airframe or the stock composite mount.

Thanks, Quicker. I was thinking if vibration was a problem, running the supports farther back would be the best idea, but not having one in my hot little hands, it's hard to figure out if it could be done or not.
