The pbf that you got is supposaly not that great for hovering. At least that what i have been told. The square ones are better at hovering and the delta like you have are better for all out speed. But that just what i have heard. I pick up a pbf ready to to fly when i put my crystal in it , for $120 with landing gear on it and a 40 fp. and it flys great . Later keith

Well, $5 seems fair. I have seen a guy selling the parts not assembled, for $20. That's why I asked, it costs about $3.50 for me to give them out at our club for free, but that's just 'cause I want to have others to go crazy to me.
Latch, you'll love that 25 sized with micro gear!

ARF - It was a joke. I did give a guy ten bucks for one with the coroplast parts already cut and the wood spine glued on. I flew a floppy disc all last summer and broke the gutter pipe fuselage on a cold winter day. I scrapped it and started looking for something similar but a bit different.

I've built a 24x24 with 3 537 JR servos and one 18g micro servo, a 4 oz tank and the standard pack...I forget what number it is though, anyways I just bought a Thunder Tiger 25gp for it and need to know what prop to use, I really would like to use one of those soft props....Grish I think, thanks for your prop inputs

Joe, you can use a 9/4...or you might try a 9/4...if that dosent work try a 9/4.....only kidding
...best all around pizza box prop is 9/4 apc...i prefer 9/4 m.a. or even a wood 9/4 (they spool up faster)

I don't know, it might work.
But for that price, you can get a Thunder Tiger 42GP and have enough money left over for a servo. The TT42GP is a great PBF motor.

I thought I would never build anouther plane after building my PBF's, but I saw in this thread about a PQHOR and built one of those. If you like the pbf you will love the pqhor. It flys just like a pbf but can hover straight up. It does not wing wobble and can handle wind. I will only take a pbf and the pqhor to the field. Selling all the others.

Here's a vid of my way overpowered PBF. It's a real kick having so much power, though the engine is a pain to tune correctly. Of course switching fuel brands doesn't help much either. Sadly this one was damaged pretty badly in a midair with a PQHOR today so I built a new airframe tonight and am ready to go tomorrow!

Latch...one flight is all i could get any prop to last...wood ones were cheaper! .....
actually with my light wire landing gear iv gotten pretty good at my hover landings and take offs....its a real kick to fly down the runway at 1' altitude then pull up in a hover and set it down on gear with engine still running......then full power with full up back to hover.
Flyboone, are you using the gear like mine now?

Hacker - I put the aluminum LG on my PBF off of a SIG Mid Star 40 with a wire tail skid. Works Great! Its just like my set-up on my PBXL, if you remember that at Mooresville. I use #10-24 nylon bolts to hold the gear on so when I dork it, all I have to do is replace the nylon bolts. I'm running the TT36 with MCM on my PBF. Its way over powered

No I haven't used landing gear on my pbf's. I did put a set on my new PQHOR though. Also, I love 10x4 APC props, but I'm running a strong .25FX with a macs muffler.
Special Note: I retired my first PBF ( the blue one I had at Mooresville). It just got too worn. Time for a new one, hope it flies as good.

Build your own PBF (Pizza Box Flyer, Flying Pizza Box)
Well, I got another rainy weekend, gotta build another SPAD. I am putting together a PBF. I am using 3/4" aluminum channel for the fuse, and poly cutting board for the engine mount. Why? because thats what I got, and it worked so well for the QHOR. But to make up for the extra weight, I figured I would scale up a bit. So I have a 30"x30" pbf cut out w/ 4" airlerons, and a fin/rudder cut out of a 8"x8" piece, which has a 4" rudder. So the questions is, with 4mm coro, are the LE's going to need strengthening, seems like they flex easy. If so, what do you recomend? I will probably use something like a TT 36 or so for enough power.
Thanks
Kevin
Thanks

Maybe you could crease two or three flutes about an inch in from the leading edge and then just fold the one inch strip of coroplast back 180 degrees, and glue it down (to the bottom side). That would leave you with a PBF that measures 30" x 28 3/4" (approx) when done. I would think it would be strong enough to minimize the flexing.

I don't think the weight penalty of the poly motor mount and the aluminum channel is large enough to justify going to a 30x30. With a TT 36, I'd bet that a 26x26 will be plenty big enough, and probably won't need to be reinforced.

Thanks guys, I took the advice of cutting it down, didn't want to have such a big thing anyway. So its cut down to a 26x26 kept the airelerons at 4" and kept the rudder/fin at 8x8 with a 4" rudder. Hopefully, it works out well, I love this aluminum channel, just stick in the servos, and zip em down., quick and easy, and everything else just bolts to the channel.
No glue, anywhere

Ok its done, had to add nose weight, heavy nut, lead, 5 cell battery....jeez, and the cg is still 6 inches back (empty tank) from the LE. (on a 26x26) This seems still a little tail heavy to me, but hopefully thats enough. Before I go and destroy it tomorow, anybody think its still too far back? (thats 23% for the math majors)
Anyway, I got a TT 36, but decided that would be better on my QHOR, so I swapped out the magnum 32, and put the magnum on this PBF. Plane weighs ~3.25lbs
tomorow both the QHOR and PBF get their maiden flights.

Well, I don't want to sound snide, but added weight to a PBF? That sorta defeats the purpose. You should be able to move the parts around to get the CG right. My opinion would be that's pretty heavy for a Mag 32. Got a 40fp sitting around? That would do it! The good news is it will fly for sure, bad news it might not fly very "scale" like
