Default #9 with a Bipe........

Well, I finally got past that pesky librarian Friday night (in truth, my wife-the librarian, got it approved for me to come and pull down the plane as the program it was there for is over....).
By Saturday afternoon, I had installed the radio and motor, tightened up all the covering, and almost doubled the size of the ailerons (not the prettiest scab-on job, but I'm glad I did it....)

I wish now that I had not built it so quickly as it weighs in at 4lbs 12oz's, but I know where I can take a pretty fair amount of weight out on the next one... It has all standard gear in it, and an OS .50 for power. Prop is a 12-4apc. Plenty of pullout power, but I can't wait to build a lighter one....

It harriers with almost no wing rock and does perfectly controlled elevators with no rock either. It hovers nicely, but I'll test that more as the engine gets more 'trustworthy'. Its got 6 flights on it, and about a dozen tail touches...... On knife edge, it has a little pitch and roll coupling, but nothing you can't mix out or fly through. I haven't had a chance to try a high-alpha KE, but I don't think it will like it much. Loops are killer- on high rates with flaperons on it microloops, and without it does nice big round loops and tracks well through them. It spins well, and snaps well also as well as flying really nicely inverted.

For lack of a name, I have decided to call it the BOXXER.......

and before anyone asks, no it is not an Ultimate, and yes I looked at the Double Vision for the fuse outline somewhat........

Anyways... I am really happy with it. I hope ya'll like it.

Thanks guys!

This plane is an evolution of previous projects, but right now its still a prototype. I'll do a few more prototypes and then I would like to do a kit if possible....If I get a kit done, Bros will be the first to know

Big thanks to Burrito Bandito for taking the cool pics.... (here's the best one. forgot it earlier...)

Two questions... Does the top wing come off? And have you tried flying it with ONLY the bottom wing? (if the top comes off)

If it's possible, it would be awesome to have a Bipe that could fly with one or both wings lol. I'm sure it would have totally different characteristics, but might be neat. Just a thought.

Great plane, Looks awesome!!

I know of at least one bipe that would fly with one wing. An old Das Bipe Stick. Worked just fine when the top wing came off. Another time the bottom wing came off. Unfortunately, the battery fell out when that happened.[X(][]

Rik, the top wing does bolt on, but I don't think I want to try pulling it off and flying it.... As it sits right now, it is just light enough on the wings(nice and floaty) which tells me I got the wing spacing and wing loading right. I am not sure doubling the wing loading would result in anything better than a nightmarish flight[:@]

I put this one on a Mode2 transmitter, so we'll see how a couple of other people like it this evening if the weather holds.

I need to get the OS .50 more reliable too.... some bubbles after the needle. (yeah, I have read all the threads about that prob and will be 'fixin' a couple of things)

I need to put PROBRO on the bottom wing too[>:]

Its very beautiful, and has my interest. Please keep us posted if you do decide to kit it.

Didn't I read somewhere that a small amount of dihedral in the lower wing of a bipe can help reduce pitch coupling in knife-edge flight? Does it affect roll coupling too? Where are the experts?

The first one that comes to mind is the one that started this thread... matchlessaero

Then of course you have another sucessful kit designer also posting here... PaulSwany (AKA Stomper)

I'd say jack01 and sloanfs have flown enough to have at least some input as well. Myself, I just heckel and instigate stuff

Expert.... not here....

Unfortunately, every discussion I have had with 'experts' yielded a different opinion... Frankly, I have had more success experimenting and letting others try the results as verification.....I do have a couple of things that I think will lessen the coupling, but it is very slight right now anyway.....

Had an awesome evening. Matlok came up to Mempho and flew the Boxxer. I also got Jack01, CitationX and Burrito Bandito on the sticks. Watching Matlock and CX TR that thing on the deck was an absolute thrilll!

You letting me TR it on the deck was an even bigger thrill!!!! Man that thing is AWESOME!!!! Seriously, thanks a LOT for getting it setup on mode 2 and letting me fly it. I still can't get over how easily it just hangs there, and how cool it looks doin it! Here's a few of those pics you took....
