Dang... I didn't see a burrito listed... But I had one for lunch:-)
By chance is there a taco also.. OK.....OK..

So how does the burrito compare to say a EF 540 or the OMP?
Will it do all/alot with a 46FX?? Tho I'm am looking at the YS 63.
I really wanted to get the EF Edge 540 ys combo... But I'm not
sure if the combo will still exist when the new shipment gets out.

GO BURRITO!!!
I have a burrito, FF Taco and EF Edge. Burrito is much easier to hover, harrier and torque roll than the others. I have a Sledge kit but watching others fly thier Sledges, They are similar difficulty to the EF Edge. They all have thier strengths and the Burrito's is 3D training plus it's still a blast after you get the hang of hovering and such. I doubt I'll ever be without a burrito if I can help it! I have a back up kit and I may try to have Paul drag another to Nashville for me.
Matt

PS you'll end up with most all of them anyway YS 63 is killer on my Burrito. If I had the cash I'd buy one for each of my 40 size profiles!

Ron,

Basementdweller nailed it. The Burrito will do everything that the others will do, but it excells at being forgiving while you are learning. And I must stress one more time, the durability factor is what makes it stand above the rest. This plane will take a beating!

My first profile was a Sledge. It is a super nice plane, but I spent more time fixing it than I did flying it cause I didn't have the skills. The first time I dorked in the Burrito, (from about 30 feet) I was thinking about how much repair I would have to do that night as I walked out to get it. To my surprise, all I had to do was fuel it back up and GO FLY!!!!! That sold me!!!!!

Since you guys mentioned durability, you should check out Latch's 4D build thread.

It's not a balsa kit, bit it will come out at 4.5 lbs with a good .46.

Best way to describe the 4D, is SPAD meets foam. It bounces. You ain't gonna break it, and you may be surprised with how it stacks up against the more popular balsa 3D kits of the same weight.

If you want to learn 3d fast you need 2 planes IMO. An electric 3d foamy ala e-yak, shockflyer etc and a good profile. I personally find the OMP 47" edge a bit better than the burrito, It high alpha knife edges with far less coupling for one thing. There's more to 3d than hanging on the prop IMHO. You need the electric foamy to practice hovering down low and close, when you get used to that you can start learning torque rolls with it. If you just get a balsa plane alone it will be fine but like everyone new you will be hovering 30 feet plus in the air because you dont want to dork it and you wont be able to see and feel the nuances of the plane. Thats were the foamy comes in, you can dork it all day long, glue it back and in 2 minutes your back in the air. Now the disadvantage of course is they are only good in low to no wind, so you will need the 40 size to translate all the close skills to your 40 size FF on windier days. Couple this with a good 3d simulator like aeropfly pro and you will be 3ding your ***** off in 6 months

So I guess I'm all sorted then? Aerofly Pro for 3Ding my behind off at night?
Shockflyer with axi for the wind still nights and late afternoon new trick tryouts?
And my soon to be born 47" Yak from OMP to top it all off?

Thanks all for the replies!! :-).... Still no hard conclusions yet..
But I guess the Burrrrito may taste the best... and its really
close on EF and OMP...
2s... 4s.... Guess the 4s is better for 3Ding?? Guess the low
end does help.. Does the 2s make it that much harder??
Just trying to crunch some money:-(

So does AFP really translate to useable help on the field??
Since you can download planes.. Is there planes listed above
that you can D/L..

Thanks in advance!! Have a Great One!!

Ron,

The 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke to me is more of a personal taste than anything else. Any GOOD 2 stroke engine is going to have all the power and torque that you'll ever need to 3D. Get a good, reliable engine, prop it right, and use the right fuel. If you can afford a 4 stroke and that's what you want, then go for it! But if money is an issue, then don't feel that you have to have a 4 stroke to have a good 3D plane. Let your taste and your wallet be your guide!

As for the plane, I have to agree with everyone here and suggest the Burrito. It's everything everyone has said and more. I have one and love it! The Mini 3D is a great 3D airplane, but not very durable for someone learning 3D. The EF Edge flies good ( I have 2 of these now!), but would not be a good 3D trainer in my opinion. I haven't flown any of the OMP planes ( I gotta fix that! ) but I hear that the Edge is a pretty stable plane.

Whatever you get, have a blast with it! Good luck!

Burrito=learning 3D w/o major repairs every dork.

.46 will fly it fine. I've had the OS .46fx, .50sx, and Saito .72 on mine. I like the .50 the best, .46 would be 2nd, even though I'm getting partial to 4Strokers everywhere else.

The Edges are more capable but not as forgiving (IE The plank wing on the Burrito LIVES TO HARRIER). No question that ANY Edge will high Alpha KE better, but that will be in the future for a 3D noobie. By my way of thinking, if you can go from zero to hover/harrier/TR/flat spin on your first 3D plane you're WAY ahead of the curve!!

I hugely respect Pauls Burrito Design, but I will go to bat for the OMP Edge as well. As my first true 3D plane it taught me hover, harrier, waterfalls, high-alpha knife, TR (still wobbly but getting better) and more. I don't think it is quite as tough as the burrito but it's not a 'glass jaw' bird either. Mine suffered many dorks while learning and kept coming back for more. I also highly reccomend the Saito 72, but the engine thing is really a very personal preference.

Watch some of the older videos of Jess R flying his OMP Edge with a 46 2-stroke, no problems there at all. I just like the 4-bangers.

Fuse being assembled as we speak Mike P at OMP was a gentleman in setting me up with a foam core fuse replacment.

They are all great but I will say the OMP Edge 540 was designed from the ground up intentionally to be a 3d trainer funfly. Very stable platform.
