Best Place to Buy Irvine 53 In USA?
I saw an add in this months Model Aviation mag. There is a place in the USA that is selling these engines, just forgot my mag at home. Does anyone else have that magazine close by and can send us the URL to the USA distributor??

We probably shouldn't shout too loud about JE selling Irvines to the US. We don't want to get Paul in deeper doodoo with Irvine and end up not being able to sell to US at all. Good idea?

Why would Irvine have a problem with selling engines and making money? What company doesn't want to make money? Knowing Sig, Paul's probably paying more for his engines, AND is picking up the tab for the boat ride across the pond. Sig sells all of 3 Irvines a year at those prices. Anything Paul sells is gravy for Irvine.
We aren't going to buy Irvines from Sig just because we can't get them from Paul; we just won't buy Irvines.

Don't get too hot Mkirsch.... You can still get 'em from Paul... Just don't make too much noise about it... JustEngines will gladly take and fill your order... they just can't solit any business actively from the US.

Hobby Barn has them for a little more than JE..
http://www.hobbybarn.com/engines.htm
$119.00, so maybe $18 or so higher than JE...and shipping is $7.50
A little more, but quite a bit less that the MSRP form Sig....
Just a thought...
(P.S. I got mine from that mail order place in England...just don't tell anyone! LOL)

If I was going to buy an new motor right now, I would have to look at something other than the Irvine. I have an Irvine 46 and 53, 53 only 1 than has been run. Not to pleased with carb and rpm's either. Also I know of some who has had carb problems with there Irvines.
I run mostly Super Tigres, I have 13 st 45 and an couple of 51 right now, and I get better rpm's and throtle respose out of them than the Irvine. Used to run OS 47fx until cylinder peeled. The Irvine does have an air leak around the carb, this is what cause me not to be able to kill the motor with the radio. just my 2 cents worth.

Those Jetstream carbs are, in the words of the Brits, "brilliant." Irvines wouldn't be half as desirable if they didn't come with those superb carbs.
In the .46 to .53 category, I would really only consider two engines. If I want to buy a premium motor - Irvine .53. If I am on a budget and want max value - TT Pro46 - hard to beat at $75. Any thing else for me either costs too much or just another also-ran.

I have both an Irvine .53 and an OS .46, and without a doubt, the Irvine is a more powerful motor. People that think the OS .46 is better just dont have an Irvine.
And about the carbs, I actually get more compliments on that than anything else. Everyone thinks its a Perry, and I haven't had any sort of air leak on mine. If I were you (before passing judgement) is to replace the O-ring around the carb, or put some lubricant on it to make it seal better.

A little different..
I had the chance to let a 3D proficient pilot (Unlimited IMAC competitor) fly my 53 powered SE right after he got finished flying his OS 46 powered Pizzaz. Even though the SE was heavier, he was astonished at the power difference between the 2 planes. First thing he wanted to know was where to get a 53.

Hey, Propnut1
I had the same problem with my Irvine .46 (not being able to kill it with the radio). I've sent it back to the UK for repair. Haven't heard what the problem is.
My carb was seated properly, so I wonder if the problem could have been a leaky front bearing?
Did you ever find out what was causing your problem?
I still like the engine. It has only had one flight on it but a lot of ground running time while I try to sort out this problem. The engine has nice response. Even with this problem, I think I will stick with the Irvine when it comes back.
Would like to know what you found out about your engine, so that we could swap ideas.
Bob

To those of you that recommend 4-strokes and those of you that don't. You gotta take a minute and read Dave McD's web page on 4-strokes if you haven't already done so.
http://mypage.yhti.net/~dmcdnld/4cycle.htm
Now understand that I personally own a few 4-strokes but this page had my stomach hurting from laughter.

Hi Propnut,
I just got my engine back (after I sent that post earlier today). The engine had been sent to Irvine directly, for repair.
The note in the box says that the engine started and stopped every time, like it was supposed to. That's hadn't been my experience.
I'm going to remount the engine in my SE and see how it runs (or in this case, stops). You might have given me a thought on the carb retainint screw, though.
Maybe we ought to keep in touch till we mutually find out what is up with our engines. I will hopefully be running mine this weekend, and I will let you know what I find out. Let me know what you find out.
