Default My build thread of the Mojo.

I got the chance to fly the mojo this weekend at the Nashville pro bro fly in, and bought a kit while I was there on Saturday. I decided not to waste anytime getting started and started the plane today. (Sunday) I will post some pics of what I have completed, and offer my thoughts on the build. I have built 4 of Paul's burrito kits so I have experience with his type of construction. So here goes.
Here is where you start with these kits building the motor mount, and fuse boom. You also have to build the center rib assembly.

Here is some more of the construction pics. After building the boom/ motor mout, and center rib you get started on the wing. This also shows the boom slid through the center rib. This looks hard to build but is really very simple.

Here the wing is nearing completion, and at the end pic it is rough framed. It will still need the tip plates, and the hatches cut out. Also included is a pic of the framed fuse.

Default RE: My build thread of the Mojo.

This will conclude my building for today. I didn't get to work on it as much as I had wanted but I still got quite a bit finished. Here is the completed fuse, ailerons, and the wing minus cutting the hatches. Hopefully tomorrow I can build the stab, elevator, and rudder. After that it will be finish sanding time.

As you can see construction is straight forward, and it is an easy plane to build in my opinion. I know that by flying Paul's this weekend it should fly great as well. I really like a plane that will knife edge well, and this one is good at it with very little if any coupling. Harriers, were rock solid both upright, and inverted, and it hovered very easily. So needless to say I am anxious to finish this plane.

Looks like you had a productive day!

Wish I could have made it to Nashville, but my work has been keeping me on the road. Just got back from a week in California, and head out in the morning for a week in Vegas. I'm sure Vegas will be mild compared to the Nashville Pro Bro.

I wish I could have stayed in Nashville for Sunday too, but I have to work on Sunday's. [:'(]
But I like having Friday off. If anybody has any idea's for how to cover this thing I would gladly welcome them. Right now I am thinking about going with a Yak scheme?????

Day 2

I got started this morning before work, and was able to build the rudder, stab, and elevator. The machine cut parts really speed up the time it takes here.

Here everything is framed, and ready for final sanding, and cutting the hatches. Time to go to work! [:'(]

It's all rough framed at this point, just the final details before covering.

Default RE: My build thread of the Mojo.

Had a long lunch break today so was able to final sand the plane, cut hatches, cut servo holes, and build the hatches.

I also taped it together to admire my work so far, and also show off what the plane will look like. I always like to see a plane in the bones. It's kind of Sexy!

I am going to dig through my scrap covering to see what I can come up with.
Now back to the dreaded daily grind! [:@]

Thanks for the kind words. So far the kit has went very well. All the wood was usable, and not to heavy! I hate heavy wood! [:@] I will be getting started on covering soon, but work is getting in the way right now. I am also trying to decide if I want to use my os 50sx, or order a new saito 82 for this plane. I want the saito, but not sure if I want to spend that much right now??

I like the flag idea, but that is way to complicated for me. I HATE COVERING!

Day #3

Got some covering done today. Wings and ailerons are covered. Bottom is solid white awaiting the pro bro freak flag! [8D]

I have stolen covering from Smallfly to be able to get enough, and I still may have to go buy another role of white. I am also going to do a small mod and install tetherite landing gear on this plane. There isn't anything wrong with the stock wire gear, it's just that I prefer the tetherite.

Now, remember I am no expert at covering, and I build my planes to fly. There is a good reason I don't do "scale" planes!

As you can see it is getting a yak covering scheme. I will hopefully be able to work on it some more in morning.

Day #4

Got some more covering done today. Fuse is basically done, except canopy area. rudder is finished, stab is covered, and elevators are left un covered. Bad news is I am out of white. I think I will just cover them in red. I don't think I will have it flying in a week's time like I had originally counted on, but will have it flying soon.
