Ok guys, I have a YS 63 that was in my Goldberg Extreme unitl I crashed it yesterday. It was a good plane, but there was some stuff I didn't like about it. Mainly the hardware and aileron servo location. I'm thinking about getting this plane and was wondering, for anyone with a YS 63 in theirs, if there are any aspects that I should take into consideration to get the plane to balance. I had a Hitec 625MG and a 635 in the tail of mine to move the CG back.

RE: Kat 40 Dude!!
My kat fuse was flexing alot so I opened the fuse and let me tell ya.....talk about lite on the glue, they must have ran out the day this thing was built, also very few of the cross bracing even meet at the intersections,CHEAP CHINA CRAP!!!! Although it is a fun to fly plane.I just hit it with some gorrilla glue, resheeted and recovered the fuse, better than before!Just watch out, they are flimsy!!!

RE: Kat 40 Dude!!
No pic but I will give you verbal instructions. First of all I used a 720Mha 5 cell 6 volt NiMh pack. There are two round servo wire exit holes in the fuse behind the wing. I simply placed foam under the battery, placed the battery under these servo exit holes on the LHS of the fuse then ran two zip tyes through the exit hole around the bottom of the fuse and the battery...20 or so flights no problems!
Hope this helps

RE: Kat 40 Dude!!
Well I got my maiden flight in on the Kat. Only one though. I found that the stock tires were way too small for the grass field that I fly on. The first attempt at take off it stuffed the nose into the ground. Then on the second I pulled back enough on the elevator to keep the nose up to take off. I flew good but I was keeping it conservative to avoid a dead stick. I swapped out the tires when I got home so it has move clearance now. Should be fun.........[8D]

RE: Kat 40 Dude!!
mine takes about 18" to lift off on short grass with small wheels. It is fun to just hold it straight up and let go. most of my landings are harrier style so grass dont matter...you will love this plane

RE: Kat 40 Dude!!
I have a question for the Katana vendors/manufactures out there. What type of aluminum is the landing gear made out of? This stuff is very poor quality and doesn't appear to have any heat treat or harding to it at all. It's very weak and flimsy and bends way too easy so it's obviously not treated at all. How can you put this junk in your arfs? I did order the tetherite gear with it but it looks to be too long to me. It makes the plane stand up about 3" taller..

RE: Kat 40 Dude!!
The soft landings weren't a problem on it. It's when the deadsticks happened. Well, I did install the tetherite gear and go fly it. It works good with the new gear but the new OS AX 46 that I have on it won't stay running. Just needs more time on it I guess. I have noticed that while revving the engine up on the table that the vibration tends to foam up the fuel and it's causing bubbles in the fuel line. Would it help to put some foam between the tank and fuse?
I did some checking and found out that the stock aluminum landing gear is made from 6061 T4 and can be heat treated to T6 by heating it the oven at 350 degrees for 7 to 9 hours. 8 is optimum. Just incase anyone is interested.......

Yeah I admit to knowing about the V2 and going the cheap route. I'm not that concerned about the covering. This is my first profile and wanted to see what I have been missing. The next one will be a better one.

Well when you wear that one out you need to get the new V2 model. Way better quality!
