RE: Kat 40 Dude!!
I flew the KAT again this evening, my CG at 130mm. I just moved the engine back one set of holes and it worked fine, drilled 2 new ones closer to the wing. WOW what an awesome plane. It did everything I was capable of. This plane is definitely a keeper. Everything is so much simpler with this plane, than my twist. I'm not great at 3D but I could hover this plane until I got tired of it. Knife egde loops are sweet with the KAT. Lomveceks are simple by starting in an outside loop. Coolest thing I think I did was KE spins in about 2 feet, and I could make them gain or lose altitude. When the fuel tanks nearly empty it harrier lands unless you land it hot. Some 6061 or 7075 aluminum gear and a sullivan tail wheel and I may not fly my other 4 planes. This 3D stuff is like golf you may get good but you'll never master it, especially with the invention of variable pitch props.
You 4 stroke, users does the plane vibrate very bad with a 4 stroke? Mine pulls out of a hover but not with authority. I may switch to a YS 63 and a 13x4 or 14x4.

For the YS 110 I'd suggest the OMP 65" Yak. It seems like a great combo with that plane and engine. If you can wait, Paul Swanson is also working on a 65" Mojo that would most likely rock with that engine!

Super D, I am running aa APC 12.25x3.75. The thing rockets out of a hover. I don't know what the altitude is where you live, but they may be hurting your pull out. More nitro always helps too.

Bigal I ordered one of those props yesterday just to try. Altitude shouldnt affect me I'm only ~ 450-500 above sea level. I use wildcat 15%, but I also have some 20% I may try. I try to stay away from 30% until winter time. ITS HOT HERE 93 degrees with 99 degree heat index, makes for good lift(air density) but is kinda miserable.

Super D, The prop should help. I forgot to mention that I am also running a Mac's muffler. If you are running the stock muffler you cane take out the baffle. It seems to let the engine breath a little better. You will have to reset the carb. I'm running cool power 15%. I can't afford the high nitro stuff and my plane fly just fine on the 15%.

The OMP 65" Yak 54 is perfect for the YS 110. That's become a very popular combination and the yak is available in both kit and ARF format right now. ARFs are a steal at 200 bucks as well!
450-500 ft is relatively very low altitude wise so you should have no problem with power and prop bite..unless it's 95 degrees and 95% humidity!

Yeah sorry bought that. We fired the color scheme guy! That's one reason the price is reduced so much. Everything looks better with decent graphics though. Bottom is all white for lots of options.

With that engine Id probably say the 65 inch Yak is your best bet.....unless you hang around till Swany does his 65 inch mojo.....then you have another kit option.
In a fatty look at a funtana 90 or a EF yak 54.

Mike, Does the yak have monocoat or something else on it. Can you tell me how much they are charging for shipping the yak. It's not on the web site.

RE: Kat 40 Dude!!
I am considering getting the Kat40 since my friend flew my Twist into a tree and then straight into the ground at about 70'. I have an OS 60 sf laying around. Would you think this is okay to put on the plane? My other engine choice is my 46fx on tower hobbies muffler. 3D is my style of flying.
Thanks
Smokey

Yes the 65 yaks have monokote on them. Matter of fact all the OMP ARFs now have monokote. The .46 FX would be the engine of choice for the kat 40. There have been many 40 size profiles powered with 60s and when balanced correctly they perform very well. Most modern profiles are very lightly wing loaded to begin with so extra weight usually isn;t a problem. However most 60s are the same size and weight as 90s so go figure. Best choice though is the .46.

dkf1979:
What prop are you running on yours? I've been using 12x4 and just switched to a 12.25x3.75. I just put a new OS 46 AX on my kat today, will those props work well with that motor? Neither of those props are on the "recommended props" list for the AX, but they are for the FX. Any suggestions?

I've flown the Kat 40 on a Saito 72, Saito 82, YS 63, and a 46AX. All were just fine. The 4 strokes didn't seem to vibrate too much to me. A Bro here put a 60 (Webra I think) in his, and he loves it. I have not flown that one, however.

If your Katana has wing rocking ... something is not setup correct. This plane should have no wing rocking whatsoever in harrier no matter how much throw you input.
Check you lateral balance. Set your CG at 135. Also check your incidences are at 0 and ailerons are balanced.
Upright harrier: Still has some of the wing rock the older P model had.
