Loved my SSE.... I have had 2 of them in the past. Not and good 3D plane but can be modified for 3d. I think you'll dig it
Good luck!

You didn't say what type of flying you'll be doing but it's a nice plane but there are a lot of other planes out there for $50.00 to $60.00 less that look and fly just as well if not better. I'd look around unless you just really want that particular plane then I'd go for it like I do

The SE is a fun plane, but not great for 3D. Not to say that you can't learn to do all of the things mentioned with a SE, but there are other planes out there that will make learning 3D easier. Have you thought about a profile?

Before you make up your mind I suggest you take a look at the OMP Edge and Paul Swanson's Burrito. There are lots of great profiles out there, but these two are always at the top of the list when anyone asks for a suggestion about a first profile. Both of these planes are kits, but OMP is supposed to have an ARF Edge out soon.

http://ohiomodelproducts.com/47edge/

http://www.swanyshouse.com/burrito/burrito.html

I'm not bashing the SE - Sig does a good job with their kits. I never had a SE, but had three or four Fazers, and I loved them. Like the SE, the Fazer is fun to fly, but not good for 3D.

If you like the SE because it's 3 piece check out a Hard Bet (I think the plans are free at HSRCM?). It's kind of like a SE with a major attitude.

Had a SSE and loved it. Right up to the part where I found true love.....PROFILES!!!!!!

Just go get a MOJO and be done with it. The only decision to make is whether you go 40 or 60 sized and thats it. End of discussion. Well..........thats my opinion..I might be biased...................

If you got a Saito 100 to put on the Funtana S40 it is possible to have fun with it. I was one of the fortunate people who got one that was ridiculously hard to 3D. Wingrocked with upright harriers and not even extreme spoileron etc mixing could solve it. Snapped out like crazy with too much up elevator. I was still trying to learn though so I might be able to fly it now. But luckily I got guided the right way and got my 47" Yak from OMP. Never looked back! I think you are asking the wrong people though about the Funtana. In the profile forums you will get helped in the right direction and that is to get a profile from the right manufacturers.

The .46 Pro has enough power to hover a SE.

Xoon,

I was recently looking at the same planes trying to figure out what would
work as well.

I think I recognize your taco from flying out at Chattfield today, looked like
you were having fun with blenders. I'm also in littleton and since we fly at
altitude plan for at least a 10% loss of power. I dont' know much about
TT 46's, but I just bought a Katana GS and an OS 46 AX, I didn't expect a
46 to pull an SSE or funtana out of a hover strong.
if a 46 can hover a somethin' extra out here, it would impress me.
I was also looking at the funtana, there was a guy out there today flying
one and he has a 75 two stroke, the plane is spec'ed as a 40 size.

I went with the profile because I thought it had a better chance of
allowing me to learn more manuevers. I expect it to be similar
to your taco.

Just my $.02

Scott

the SE lack of side area that`s the issue on KE, for a 46 I would look at the TT spirit 3d or similar one

What you REALLY want is a Mojo 40 or 60, or an OMP Katana. I had a SE with a Rossi 45 on it, it flew like a demon, but it in no way compares to the flying characteristics of a profile.

i really don't know what to do.. i don't know which plane to buy. i thought of the SSE because it looks good and it can do good 3d manuvers. i want a FUNTANA too because it has a full body and it can do crazy 3D. don't get me wrong i really like profiles, its just that it flop around in the wing too much ( or at least mine does.) right now i got $180 from working.. mowning lawn and just gifts from my relatives. i got a .75 supertiger engine at home. help me decide which to get buy today because i'm goin to order it on MON and it will be here by friday just in time for my summer project.

I'm on ch 15. I've both the yellow 4*40 and a yellow seniorita. I basically just asked the guy with the funtana what engine he had in it. Seems to hover ok from what I could tell, but I
was flying at the time.

The SSE definitely looks good and I've heard great things about its flight characteristics. I talked to another guy out there who was flying one, said it didn't knife edge well. I don't know what engine he had. I bet it can with the right set up, but I doubt that you will get extreme 3d manuevers out of it, would take more than a 46. Take a look at the control surface area on the tail and you'll see what I mean. There are a couple of LHS's around here that carry the arf, I bet you could take one out to look at it more closely, or just pull up some pics from people here who have posted it.

The funtana has much bigger surfaces and was designed more for 3d, BUT it will require a bigger engine than an SSE would. Your 75 2 stroke might be right, but I'm not familiar with engines that size. I did hear of guys out here putting 91-100 four strokes on it and saying it flies good, that seems to match the previous posts. Those guys said that a saito 72 four stroke wasn't quite enough for them, I don't know what they were into.

Speaking from ignorance (I've only had a sig fazer, and that was long time ago, and short lived) I think the guys from the previous posts are right when they imply it's tough to get the same performance from a fatty as a profile. You can, you just need to overpower it.

Its a tough call, I agonized over this one for a while. That's about all I know....hope it helps.

Good luck!

i will be out there today... i don't know if i will see you... but i saw you yesterday. i got $180 right now... i can buy a funtana then sell my Super tiger 75 for around $90 and i need to make $100 more to get a 4 stroke. so that's a lot of LAWN MOWING!!!! ( $10 every four days!!!) i don't know... i've seen a funtana fly and that's what i want...

I won't be out there today, you could always try your 75 and see if you like it before making your decision on a 4 stroke. It may do fine on the funtana 40.

The .46 Pro has enough power to hover a SE.

Eric

All day long! I have a TT .46 swinging an APC 12.25x3.75 on my SE. It will hover at around half throttle. It has enough to pull out of a hover vertically, but it won't rocket out.

The SE is IMHO one of the best all-around planes. With the throws low and a conservative CG it flys like a trainer. With the throws maxed, a rearward CG and plenty of thrust, it will do just about anything. Mine will knife edge, but had has to be done with a lot or airspeed to hold altitude. I learned to hover, harrier, and flatspin, etc.. with the SE. It has absolutely no bad habits and has zero tendency to snap with too much elevator.
