Default OMP 65" Yak ARF

Well I flew my OMP Yak today for the first time. Here's my setup: YS 120 FZ APC 16-6, HS 5645 on all surfaces, and an HS 81 on the throttle. 1400 NiMH battery. Futaba 9C. It took me 2 short flights to trim and adjust the engine a bit and then I started to fly it. The plane tokk off in about 12 - 15 feet at about half throttle. It was really nice and slow and I had it hovering. (As well I hover anyway). I was really happy. That is until the Elevator servo came unplugged and I got to watch my Yak get strained through a hickory tree. It is a complete right off. This was its 5th flight. I didn't bother to take a picture because I thought I would rather have the positive memory and the intact pictures to remember by. I checked the plugs before I flew as well. I guess it just vibrated loose. I guess the pressure is on to finish my Mojo 60 now. The good news is I got my Kat 40 out and flew for three flights really well. My hovering is getting better but I think it still need to move the CG back.

Don,

Man, I'm sorry to hear that[] but, at least you had something else to fly. The kids are almost done with my MOJO 60 and I too am anxious to get it in the air.

Dude, that is just not right and no bird should die young. I think we have all had a loss like that one time or another and can feel your pain. Very sorry for you! If you are interested in another one just contact me personally and I will make a really sweet deal for you.

The one I just wrecked weighed 7.7 lbs with the YS 120 FZ and the digital servos. How do you find the ARF compared to the one you built?

The ARF version is nearly identical to the kit version, the fuse is made from white foam, good or bad i dont know, the wing tube on the ARF is about 3/16" bigger in diameter. Otherwise it looks the same. As of right now i need to move the battery around to shift some weight back on the ARF.

I had some lead on the tail to get the CG back to 2" with the 120 on the front. It had awsome power though for its short life.

Just to let you know guys that Mike designed the plane for .91 2 stroke. It should balance real close to dead on with that up front. All weights should be based on that for shifts.

Hi Sean. The muffler I got from you survived the crash! Maybe your muffler was bad luck. Maybe I should check my connections more carefully............

Don,

Sorry about your loss.

You might want to verify that the elevator servo still works, for that matter, you should verify that all the servos still work. It could be that you initially had a servo failure and the elevator servo being unplugged was a result of the tree straining. We (my buddies and I) have had several failures of Hitec servos (Some HS225(Pot Failures) and HS5945MG(4 Separate Complete Meltdowns). Though I know that one of us has a some HS5645 and has not had any problems with those, you should still verify that the servos were not the culprit.

I wondered the same thing about the servos when it happened. I went up to the model in its many pieces and tried all the servos and everything worked except the elevator. I carefully removed what was left of the wing and the plug was hanging out already. I plugged it in and it worked immediately. Thanks for the advice though it was thoughtful.
