Default Sledge 540 or golberg330????

What do you thing about these two planes. Is the sledge going to become an arf or is it going to stay a kit.

How does the 330 hover, harrier, and all that good stuff?

How does the sledge hover, harrier, and all that good stuff?

I have a magic and i can tail touch it and all but i want something more advanced..

Thanks

I love my Sledge. It does everything well.
High apha knife edges are cool with the nose up at about 60 degrees.

Heres me and mine.

Eventually, yes but it may be a while.
Build one. It goes together well.

Default Sledge 540 or golberg330????

I have flown both and they are both great planes. I have had much more succsess with hovering, elevators, and torque rolling with the Extreme 330. I really like CG models but Jeff Williams has designed a winner with the sledge also. The 330 is a heavier plane and needs more motor than the sledge. If it was up to me and I wanted a plane that could be ready in 3 evenings, I'd go with the 330. On the other hand, If I wanted to build a plane that does all the mentioned stuff, get the sledge.
Either way, you can't ge wrong but I preffer the Extreme 330

i have flown the sledge and it is one awsome airplane. it will do all the 3d stuff. it builds real easily. you can stick it up on saturday. takes me longer to cover it than to build it.

Since I have flown a goldberg 330 with a ys 63 I feel comfortable adding my 2 cents. I thought it was difficult to hover and was not as smooth as the sledge. Knife edge was similar and spins similar, although I can do inverted flat climbing spins with the sledge and not with the 330. The 330 was a decent airplane, just felt the sledge was more capable. If it was as good I would admit it. JMHO Jeff Williams

The 330 weighs 5 lbs. and needs alot of motor to really come alive. I have one with a 46FX and mac's tunned pipe and it has unreal power. I don't think the YS 63 4C would have enough to do it justice but I could be wrong . It's a cool plane. I can get mine in a inverted flat spin by going up full throttle for a spit second then inside snap and hold. It gets into a inverted flat spin witout loosing altitude. Pretty cool seeing it do that about 20' from the ground just sitting there. It won't gain altitude though.

I've never flown the sledge 540 but it looks good. Might have to be a winter project.

After rereading my reply, it would seem I cast a shadow on the 330. That was not my intent, it is a good plane and I think most anybody would be happy with the plane. It does have potential, I just would pick the sledge. That is me, everybody is different.

Jaco,
A YS 63 w/ a a 13x4Wprop will pull a 5.75 pound plane unlimited vertical. It will make a OS46 look like a 25FX

Default 46 fx

well, I am putting a 330 together right now. It will be powered by a 46fx with nelson muffler and 12.25x3.75 APC prop. It will have Hitec 225MG's all around. Let's see how it does with this setup. I hope the servos will hold OK. They did on my Top Cap.

Default Sledge 540 or golberg330????

From the 5 guys at my club all of whom have the 330 and have flown my sledge - all say they would stick with the 330 from a $$'s/time perspective.

The only real reason to build is to make mods or if an ARF is a real pig which the 330 is not. I jammed about 40 hours and the cost of a new 330 arf into my Sledge. was it worth it? Yes, because I like to build.

As for flight performance between the two lots of things go into account: engine, cg, etc all have big impact on any plane's flight performance.

I have found they will both do pretty much the same thing. Execpt the 330 flat spins a bit flatter - a dissappointment with the Sledge - HOWEVER - the sledge did much nicer knife edges and much slower too.

Bottom line - go for the 330 unless you are passionate about building.

/Bob

I don't mean to get in a flame war with you but my dad has a YS63 4 cycle on a 5LB 8oz Laser 3D w/13X4W prop and doesn't get anywhere near unlimited vertical and it won't pull out of a hover all that great. A 46 FX WITH A TUNED PIPE will rocket the 5 lb. 6 oz Extreme out of a hover and has unlimited vertical. Maybe something is wrong with his YS.

Something must be wrong w/ your Dad's YS63. I absolutely love mine. Tons of Torgue. I didn't take you comment as a flame against a YS63.

But a YS63 w/ 20/20fuel 13x4w should pull a 5.75lb plane out of sight.

For those of you who say the sledge will not flat spin as well, you are doing something wrong or it is setup. Mine, and many others will flat spin like frisbees, and inverted it will climb I do it all the time to mine. 3Dreamings is even better than mine. Without flying everyones it is difficult to say, but if you are jamming the sticks in the corners (full throttle, left rudder, rt aileron and up elevator) it will fall out. You must moderate the control of the ailerons and find that sweet spot. I hope that helps, try it and let me know. Also, the video of the sledge will be out soon, and it will show spins on there. If any of you are going to the profile brotherhood fly in Oct 19 I plan on being there with two sledges. As for the sledge in arf it will happen, those things take time. Jeff Williams

Default Sledge 540 or golberg330????

I don't want anybody to think I don't like the sledge. It's a very good funfly design. I have flown Jeffs sledge( thanks Jeff) 1 time at the fly-in in Henderson KY and another one at my home feild , although I was not at all familliar with the plane, it flew very well.
I did witness Jeff Williams doing climbing inverted flatspins, harrier rolls , torque rolls and anything else you can think of. I couldn't do them when I flew it but I could do good Knife edges and some brief hovering with it but its only due to my lack of stick time on the Sledge. I can hover my 330 along time and even get 3 turns on a torque roll. Keep in mind I have only been flying it for a month.
I believe that both planes have thier good characteristics and I would definately own a Sledge to go with my Extreme ( my 330 is the one with the YS63 Jeff spoke about). The 63 is plenty of power and will climb vertical for days.
All I am saying is that if you don't want to build it, go with the 330. Thay are both great fun and will do anything you want them to. If you want to build a great plane , get the Sledge. Jeff but a lot of effort into this plane and I've only good things to say about it...

Ah yes I remember you. I did fly your 330 with the YS63. Hey I agree with jstyme, if you do not want to build buy any other arf. Building is a pain at times, try building 6 sledges in one winter, I am arf starved. I love building but it does take time and arfs are so good now that one must examine them. The sledge will be arf soon, Morris is looking into that right now. I did a post that went to the bottom quickly, it said take the Morris poll weekly, they will be looking for schemes and the like for the sledge arf and you can vote and help determine things.
For those of you that read my above post about doing something wrong in a flat spin, it took me awhile to figure it out myself so do not feel bad.
Chad, the fun fly is in Memphis, go to www.the******************.com and it has info. BTW it is a great website you will like it. Jeff W.

wild3dfunfly, call Morris they are waiting for you. I am sure they have one on the shelf with your name on it. Just kidding, but hey I hope you get one too. The omp edge is a good plane, I am glad you like it. The best plane out there is the one you like flying the most. I plan on being at the profile brotherhood fly in I will let you fly my sledge. wild3dfunfly, I was wanting to see that picture of you hovering it next to you. Surely you do not doubt me when I say Morris has one just waiting for you. Hey you are fun to harrass, but in all seriousness, I hope you can get one someday sooner than later. But in the meantime you got a good plane in the OMP 540p. Jeff Williams. BTW I have nothing to do with the pricing.
