Default Saito 72/Pizzaz performance?

I'm considering buying a Pizzaz but wondering about the right engine for it. Are any of you guys getting good vertical acceleration on plain old 10% fuel (Also what prop?) Is higher nitro a necessity for good power? If I would rather run 10% (I have lots on hand) am I better off to just get a Saito 90 or 100 for about 3 ounces more weight?
(Does it need the nose weight anyway?)

Thanks

Default 72

I've seen this plane with a 72 munted on it. It does not need more engine or more weight. In the area of funfly designs it's already on the heavy end of the scale but with this engine capable of all manuvers. This engine will even pull it through a knife edge loop.

Default Saito 72/Pizzaz performance?

My concern is that I see a lot of mentions of 20-30% fuel used in these engines toget the performance described. Is the Saito still powerfull enough to accelerate the Pizazz out of a hover on regular 10%? I just like to keep things simple rather than drag two or three fuel cans to the field for different engines. I also wince a bit thinking that the difference in fuel costs could be used for more tangible hobby items rather than just going up in smoke<VBG>

Thanks again

Jim

Hey Chuck...How's it going?
So it's the concensus that the 63 is a better choice than the 72? What's it weigh?

I have a Pizazz with a Saito 72. It rocks. The engine isn't completely boken in yet. Mine has unlimited vertical. I'm running a 13X7 APC and Omega 15%.

Default YS 63

Ys 63 is 17.9 ounces with muffler.

Here's what I've learned so far:

1) In Japan, Saito is not even in R/Cers vocabulary.

2) YS 63 can out-turn Saito 72 by 800 to 1000 RPM on the same prop, and does this on less nitro.

3) YS owners were quick to praise the 63, and Saito 72 owners never really spoke up. Hmmmm

4) Also, it appears that the needle valve will exit on the right side of the fuselage when you mount the YS inverted, and it'll be on the left side for the Saito. Not sure about that, but if so, it would be nicer for my application.

I can get the Saito GK for $220 plus 6.5% tax in MN ($234.30), or the YS for $240 from Central plus shipping. So for a few bucks more I can get the YS.

Hope this helps.

Default Saito 72/Pizzaz performance?

MY YS 63 weighs 18.4 oz. with muffler, thrust washer, prop nuts (2) check YS check valve, H9 fuel filter, and the fuel tubing to hook up the fuel filter, and check valve.

this is what the post office scale showed me when I put my motor on it ready to run. All I had to do was put on a prop, hook up the fuel tank lines, and mount the motor.

I have a little over a 1 1/2 gallon of Bryon 20/20 through it. It will turn a 13x6 apc at 11,400 peak, I richen it up and fly is at 10,200.
14x4 zinger 10,700 peak. fly is at 9,900-10k.
It has been a great motor. If I ever need another 4 stroke for a 40 size it will be a YS 63.
