I have one, Great plane, one of my favorite. Tower closed the Extra Special. But they have a Fun 51. I have not flown one, but it is very close to the Extra Special. Might also look at Morris Hobbies, they have several Profile planes, that are awsome.

Hmm...I've always thought it was the worst flying airplane on G2...
Either way, the real airplane does fly great! You can get the plans from Tower Hobbies or buy the Fun 51 which is basically the same airplane... http://www.towerhobbies.com Do a search in the FunFly forum for the Fun 51 and you will come up with a couple great threads with a bunch of good information and flight reports. You can't go wrong, they are $45! It's a great kit with good wood and instructions. They can be built in a weekend and covered in another weekend. Depending on what kind of flying you really like, you will more than likely end up with a Morris Hobbies airplane like the Sledge or Knife.... http://www.morrishobbies.com |
Thanks
Well, i just like being able to go absolutely ballistic with it, going vertical till you cant see it anymore cuttin the engine the startin rolling, then power up and head towards the earth spinning at about 1000rpm, then pulling up at the last possible second, and being about to roll at about 1/4 aileron, its just fun. I had a lot of problems landing, so i changed the flat stab the a very slight airfoil, and now it settles in nicely, i also increased the elevator throw to be able to hover better. But with those two mods the airplane goes through a loop very square like, and the left wing always stalls when you come out of the loop...still trying to figure that one out. But anyway, i saw the fun.51 but i wasnt sure if it was as capable as the extra special. What plane do yall recommend for going crazy???

Extra Special .40
Sounds like you need a Sig Somethin' Extra with a nice .50 2 stroke.
They can handle speed and ANYTHING you can throw it at, except the ground...You can throw them around like no other at higher speeds than anything else. A profile like the Exrta Special will fall apart at high speeds (flutter, major sections failing). Set up correctly you can fly around at full throttle with a Rossi .45 and a pipe...Then throw in some of the quickest snap rolls you will ever see. Somethin' Extra is the only airplane I know of that has such a wide range of flight. It will do anything! I don't think there is a bang around airplane that can match the Somethin' Extra for strength, design, and capability. Afte that, you can decide what you really want to do. You might end up moving onto a Morris airplane if 3D get's in your blood... :) |

I just love my somethin' extra. I like to throw it around like no other. Last night I landed upside down. The only thing broke was the nylon engine mounts that were snapped in half and the area in front of the hatch. It is one fun plane.
