Hover ?'s on Magic 3D
I picked up a Magic 3D today. I'm hoping for really good slow and up close flying characteristics. I'd also like this to be the plane with which I learn to hover. I've actually done tail touches with my Pizza Box but I'm not sure it's a plane!
What I'm wondering is- 1) Our field is at about 4500 feet. What engine will be needed to hover this plane. I have a ball bearing .40 and .46 available. I plan on using either a 12x4 or 12.25x3.75 APC prop. 2) Do you NEED metal geared servos or are the regular sport servos okay? 3) Any tips/hints you might have regarding this plane. I'm willing to get a different engine if need be. I've heard that the TT. 36 is a perfect match. I'm just not sure that it will do the job at altitude. Thanks, Scott |

A 46 should be fine for it. Metal gear servos arn't a must have, you can get away with standards. Probably want some decent ball bearing servos though.
They call this plane the hover trainer for one reason! Have fun with it |

Hey Scott your going to love the Magic. It's a total blast to fly! I would recomemd you use the 46 on it. Watch your balance and make sure you static balance it carefully. As you are harrier landing and slow flying the need to do this is extremly critical. You don't need anything more than standard servos. One thing the plane does bad is knife edge but it will thrill you in so many other ways. Good luck with yours.

Normally wouldn't recommend a .40 but you might need that big prop at that altitude. Just remember one thing when you put it together. Move every thing as far aft as possible. I even ended up mounting my battery pack to the bottom of the wing, aft, above the servo's. The factory recommended CG is too far fwd for my taste. Should be about 1/2 inch aft of that.

if you have to add weight, do something useful and reinforce the weak fin post. i would do this to any magic regardless of engine size
