Lite PBF Airframe is done...
 

I've been flying my OS 40 FP PBF for almost a year now and it's getting pretty beat up, but I'm still having a blast with it. When I got that PBF done it was 2LBS 9oz. Now with all the repairs to the spine it is a solid 3 oz heavier. I've set out to make a PBF closer to 2 lbs. This one will have a .25 LA, mini throt servo, 370 mah 6V NIMH RX bat, fiberglass tubing (glasforms) for the spine(s) and a glass filled nylon engine mount. I've been using this material for the engine mounts on my SPA3D and have never had a failure (even with lots of doinks;)) Thanks to Dave McD and WOW-OOPS for the design help. If all works out this should be a blast.

Where are you getting the glass filled sheet for the engine mount? I bought the coro but haven't built it yet.

It's an industrial supplier. McMaster-Carr is their name. www.mcmaster.com Item no. 8555K36. It is not cheap though. $20 for a 12" X 12" square. I've never broke one though, even on a radio loss on my SPA3D where I went into the frozen ground at about 70 MPH, then did the most awesome 12 foot high cartwheel I ever saw. The wing on my SPA3D tore right down the middle about 8 inches, but the motor mount was fine.

I just made some test parts for glass-filled nylon motor mount rails. They're really made for the profile planes and CA glue or other adhesives (for foam bonding), but could be bolted into place as well.
The test parts are 3/8" X 3/8" X 12" and 3/8" X 5/8" X 12". They weigh a little more than hard wood, but no hole enlargement from vibration and no soaking up oil!
Might be something someone might like to try.
