I was at the field today trying to trade my Ultra Stick for a really nice Pro Twister. I couldn't pry that away but he said he had a Raven profile. He said it was sluggish with a .60. I have an Enya .80 (bored out .60) that might be perfect for this plane. Anyone have any experience with this plane? If it's a good plane it would be a great trade and local.

Hi Jim,
I've built the Raven Profile.
It was a decent kit. The wood was hard and heavy BUT I could hover it with extra power to spare with a TT Pro 46.

Then neat thing about this kit is the ACTUAL lexan canopy. I tinted with RIT dye in hot water.

The plane flies decent. It by no means compares to some of the more modern fun-flies of today. I'd compare it to the Tower Extra profile fun-fly, and the Sig Faser.

Just an all round fun to fly profile.

High Flights!

Billy ; I'm currently flying one of these. I LOVE it!! I've only had one other funfly "Funtiger from Thundertiger". I have a Saito 72 on it & it has awesome vertical, does the neatest blender you've ever seen, & pinwheels are so easy. I'm building a Su-do-khoi, so some day I'll be able to give you a comparison. Over-all I'm very impressed with the Raven, the only thing I see wrong with it is the front is really flexible , especially with a big 4-stroker idling, you might want to put ply on both sides like Morris does on their kits.

I talked to a buddy at the field and they weren't impressed but your review has me curious again.

Billy I do have my CG way back! Maybe that's why I'm so happy with mine. I might get the Su-do-khoi going & think this thing was a dog, I doubt it it flies great. Could you test fly the Raven before you traded?

I think so. I'll give it a try. It's a good looking bird I think.

I'm I seeing your blow by nipple attached to fuel line that is going back into the fuel tank? Do you have three tubes coming out of your tank?

roadhor would you be willing to sell your raven after you finish putting the su-do-khoi together?

Billy ; I just stuck it on there to keep it from flopping around. I pull the fuel line off & run the engine dry & then stick it on there to keep the carb from sucking up any fuel that might be left in the tank. The tank is just a Hays 6 oz, have you tried any 30% in your Thundertiger 4-stroke yet?

I did a little research and everyone said it would run too hot. I going to put the Irvine .53 on there and put the TT .54 on my 4.3lb Gee Bee profile.

I had one of those Raven profiles a couple yrs back......didnt like it, looks like its got alot of potential with those big ailerons, mine was slow rolling and didn't do musch else.
Maybe i could have changed things, like 4-40 pushrods on the ailerons, and move the CG around, faster servos, 6v battery, but i was a babe in the world of R/C then and didnt know these tricks.
Good luck if decide to trade.......Gator

I had the one Gator is talking about and I wouldn't have another one of them at all. Fuse is weak in them and they are heavy.

The Raven is kinda like the Sig Fazer. Easy plane to fly.

The raven has one of the worst things that could ever be put on a fun fly plane, wing plates! These slow down the spin rate and make the plane more stable, and prevents the stall that you want in the fun fly airobatics.

I'm starting to get the picture.

I have to disagree. I've had the Raven and my roll rate was fast!
The wing tip plates improved the slow speed performance by eliminating the tip stall and improves hovering.

After flying my Profile Hots for a year I installed wing tip plate to improve the hovering and it also increased the speed of the spins!!A lot faster!

Just my experience. Don :)

The Global Raven kit brings back many fond memorys for me.
It seems it was always my backup plane when I crashed whatever my primary plane was at moment.

I got more hours of flying from this Raven then any other plane.

It would vertical hover all the way to the ground with a OS46FX,.with the baffle out and a 11.5X3.75APC . If you put baffle in muffler the plane would tailslide all the way to the ground at full throttle.
But you really had to increase the throws to make it tumble. and would do a inverted flat spin at a very slow desent.
My biggest gripe was the week vertical stab and poor rudder control. I think the ailerons were so huge that they overpowered
the tail feathers.
But as you can see from picture I found a windsock at a fly-in at Wilkesboro NC.

For the money ,I think it was a good kit, it would fly very slow.
Too bad you can't find them anymore.

You flatter me..... I could fix it... but it probably wouldn't ever hold a trim...
