Basic question about Super Hots...

Good morning All,
I usually lurk around the Warbird area but this is a question for this group, thank you for your time and concern. I am just finishing up my Midwest Super Hots before I go onto the B-stang. I am putting my K&B 61 on it and would like to know what prop to fly it with. I have a 12x6 on it but that is from when I had the engine on the Cub (if this matters I really don't know). Any suggestions? Again, thank you for answering.

Basic question about Super Hots...

I used a Master Airscrew 12x6 with a ThunderTiger .61 on my Superhots. IT worked quite well when the engine worked, but that is another story. It was fast enough for me with good vertical carry.

I use a 12x6 on my OS46fx you could go up an inch and reduce the pitch to three or four and get better tork and better vertical. Pitch = horizontal speed diameter = tork = vertical.

Super Hots lol

I think he is asking about the Super Hots not the Hots the Super is a .60 size plane and the HOts was a .40 size plane.

I was talking about prop size he was asking what prop to use with his K&B 61. I had a Midwest hots in the mid eighties It was a 40 size plane but I had an OS61 rear exhaust with a pipe it was a screamer. I think I was swinging a 13x6. I could hover and tumble and Snap!

Great to hear about the .60

I do have a .40 size hots but it is the Midwest kit seems very heavy. What did you do to lighten it if anything? I now fly a Super Hots I scratch built from M.A.N. plans and it flys fantastic. Heck I would even recomend it as a second plane if you kept the throws low. Came in at 6pounds with a Saito .91. And the .91 is a bit much it would still fly fantastic with either a Saito .71 or a Y.S. .63. The .91 Saito i am running a 14-6 apc and also a paint stick lol 14-6 master airscrew.

I built it per the plans it was heavy but th Sixty really pulled it and vertical was unlimited. It still landed well because of that thick blunt wing. Sometimes I miss it.

Maiden flight...

Thanks for the replies. I flew the maiden flight Saturday. A great guy (Vinnie G) who taught me how to fly about 15 years ago, took up my Super Hots. I have been building this plane since about 1989 (not all building time of course) so I was a little nervous to take it up tht first time. It has the K&B 61 on it with a 12x6 prop. He trimmed it out for me and gave me the radio saying it "flies like a rocket!" I flew it around for a few minutes at just under 1/2 throttle, then he said, "give it some juice and hold on". I did... Did a pass at full throttle about 25 feet up, right outside the runway edge. It flew! Took it around landed and cleaned up. Called it a great day, thanked Vinnie and went home. I will post pictures as soon as they are developed.
