So, what do you guys think of this engine? Seems like everyone has one of these.. Must be something with them? Are they comparable to the 46fx or the Webra 50?

I have one on an Pizzaz, turns an 12.25x3.75 around 13,200 rpm's. Haven't seen an webra 50 run. Have seen an OS 50 run, and it had an lot of power, but also has a higher price tag.

Don't like the fact that they are hard to kill with tx. trim. I like to be able to kill my motors with the trim.

Well I think this is one of the best motors made including the 46fx. I can cut my motor with my tx no prob. Great transition, great idle, easy break in, great power. Put an Ultrathrust on it and it is too much power (wait, is there such a thing as too much?).

It is the 350 of 2 strokes.

Agree with Billy, I have 2 of the 53, but run great and very strong
Agree with propnut...they wont die.....well sometimes they will but more often they dont.
Man I lucked out and got 2 slightly used Irvine46's from a guy in Ca. for $120...this will bring the total of Irvines I own to 8....G

Hey Keith called and he has an nib st 45 in stock for 95.00. I told him I have 2 nib st 45 and an nib irvine 46 right now, don't think I need another one. If I counted right I have 13 st 45 and 2 st 34, and 2 st 51.

Hey Gator, I got an fut super 7 tx on it way. don't know what I going to use it in. May use it with the wm zero and p-51. Wished I have of gotten yours M.A. p-51

Great engine.

I have the OS46fx, OS50SX, and the Irvine 53. love them all, and probably will never part with any of them, but the 53 is my favorite so far. I haven't tached any recently, but the 53 is more than just a little stronger than the 46fx. clearly stronger than the 50 too. Mine is currently on an Avistar trainer, hovers easily and pulls out with plenty to spare. My 46fx has quit on me a few times, but the 50 and 53 have been flawless performers. no hassleing with the needle valve to get the right setting... just flawless.

anybody want to buy a tower 46? or a magmum 40?

I have an irvine 53 on a H-9 Aresti. I loved the engine all 6 flights. I had a 12X6 then a 12X4 then a 12.25X3.75.
The motor is now on it's way back to Sig. On the 7th flight it sagged bad just as I was landing and when I picked up the plane I noticed the motor felt odd(turning the prop). Upon inspection the connection between the piston rod & the cranshaft( is it the wristpin ?) was scared and there was black residue everywhere. also metal shaving visible.

I was worried that I hurt it with the 12.25X3.75 prop OR I leaned it out too much. I've had modeling friends( some I would call EXPERTS with decades of experience) tell me it had to be a problem with the engine.

What do you guys think & what probs if any have been experienced by others with this engine. The LHS guy said it was his 1st irvine to have any problem of any kind and he also said he didn't think the damage was from 1 lean run.

BTW I have a OS 46FX with problably 100 flights. I've used Fox 40's, Fox 50's, Fox 60's, Magnum 40, ASP40 and never had an engine failure before.

Thanks for listening while I vent frustrations and thanks for advice.I'll post Sig's reply when I hear from them if anyone's interested.

I have never had a problem like swlarcham has. I have had problems with the carb's. The low end screw turns too freely on 2 of them and the barrel stop came out of one of mine and one of my friends irvine carb,,,,,otherwise I LIKES 'EM.....Gator

I won't be buying any more 46FXs and will be getting Irvine .53s instead. For the about the same money you just get more!

I run mine with the 12.25 and a UT muffler..it turns some serious R's (14.7K on the ground, and this is richened up a bit!). but I never use that WOT setting much while flying.


It still seems to be in good shape...I will cry when it shells! I think they are a great value.

Glad yall feel that way bout the Irvine 53. Fixin to go the the local shop and get one today. I just finished a 46 size Cloud Dancer and put a magnum 45 in it but think I have decided to go with the Irvine 53.Does this sound like a good match.I'm lookin for speed with out the hi dollar stuff...

From my experience you need to run the irvine 53 a tad rich and use fuel with 20% castor and no more than 10% nitro. I ate up a liner once using 18% oil all synthetic 2/4 stroke fuel. They take a second or so to shut off, but they allways shut down I have run my 53's pretty hard for 2 years and the only problem has been a scarred liner that was my fault for not using castor fuel

I've got two Irvine .53's and 2 Irvine .25's... I love 'em... If you take care of 'em they run great... and if you abuse them... they still run great....

On the .53's, i'm running 12.25 x 3.75 APC prop on 'em. I'm getting 13,700 rpm. I tried a Mac's header and mousse can, then later a tunned pipe on one of them... got 14,300 rpm... but it was too much for the plane and the transition was a little more difficult to set... So, I like the Tower mufflers on these motors.

I failed to list the fuel choice. I was using Sig 10%, which is a castor/syn blend (I don't remember the % of each-I'm sure one of you guys could tell me)

As to sending it back to Sig - I purchased it at my LHS & he said to send it directly to Sig ( the warranty instructions listed the Sig address for service work. "Course I'da been happier if my LHS had replaced it & sent itin himself but he didn't make that offer & honestly I didn't expect him to :-)

I sure hope they replace it for me - I love the engine (what little bit I got to use it). In fact whiole at the LHS I almost bought another one just so I wouldn't have to wait on the repair. The GMS 47 is doing OK but it ain't no Irvine 53 :-)

I've run both 10% and 15% omega... I believe the omega fuel has 20% castor/syn blend. I've had good results with both.

Now that I've decided on the Irvine,there's one problem. I went down to the shop and naturally he was out of the 53 and will be in some time this month..Dang,I want it NOW...Where do I buy one.I looked thru RCM and didn't see the engine in there not once...Where do I get it??

well I believe you are wrong but who care this is not your fault the fault is from MORAGAN that they don't tells us in all the gallon what oil% is the fuel

Thanks for the correction Boricua 007.. The site show 17% lubricant, 30% of which is castor and 70% is synthetic.
