OMP Yak54, OMP Edge, or Mojo

I am adding my second profile to my fleet of planes and am really torn between which one to get. I was set on getting a Mojo but now OMP has free shipping on their kits and so they OMP kits and the Mojo are about the same price.

I really like the epoxy tube in the Mojo but see tha the Yak 54 and Edge by OMP have the foam core fuselage. Is the foam core as durable as the epoxy tube?

I really like the fact that the OMP kits come with the tetherite landing gear so that is a big plus.

With price being the same which one would you guys recommend?

(All the planes I am looking at are the 40 sized versions.)

I have bot the OMP Yak and Edge, I am very pleased with the performance from both. I have definately heard good things about the MOJO, I dont think you'll go wrong with any of the three

Also, the balsa sheeted foam fuse is plenty tough

RE: OMP Yak54, OMP Edge, or Mojo

If the balsa sheeted foam is plenty tough it seems that the tetherite landing gear is a big plus for the OMP models.

What about the weight? I will be using a TT pro 46 so weight is an issue. The closer to 4 pounds I can with the model the better.

Most MoJo's come in under 4 lbs.

I don't have the 40 size mojo, but I do have 2- 60 size mojo's. I will say that they are extremely tuff birds.

I have the OMP Yak 65" that I built from a kit. It is extremely tuff as well. I've pancaked it really hard out of a flat spin and dumb thumbed it while hovering inches from the ground. It has held up great and has only had minor repairs.

So I'd say whatever you get will be great. The mojo might come in a tad lighter. That's about it. The mojo's landing gear is a great design also. They are tuffer than nails.......

I think they all would be great.... are you looking at the OMP kits or Arf's?

afaik the mojo is only a kit

Mojo!!! That carbon tube is stronger then foam can ever think of being. Plus a mojo can come under 4 lbs if your careful with the glue an wood!

My OMP little Yak is 1830g (4.007lbs) with a OS .50 SX on the nose. If you're going to be using a .46 on it you can get it under 4lbs if my theory is correct and the TT is about the same weight as a .46 FX. Get the 47" Yak! It's a jewel! Love the way it pinwheels and tumbles. Hovers are sick stable and so is the upright and inverted harriers. Flat spins either way is easy to lock into. All in all just a very forgiving and silly fun plane to fly! Oh and yes I have dorked mine. Lost power in a low torque roll and she nosed in from about 9feet up. New prop and carb clean she was in the air again.

RE: OMP Yak54, OMP Edge, or Mojo

Thats cool but I want yellow and they said they won't have'em in for 2 months or so. Accel hobbies has them in YELLOW. Accel asked me how my roomates katana was serving him and I told him that he had recieved his with a broken aileron from OMP. The guy I spoke to was great and said he was sending an extra aileron for my roomates plane EVEN THOUGH he ordered it through OMP. Now my roomate never bothered to call OMP about it so this is NOT a dis on OMP, but just to let ya know how GREAT the sevice was at accel. I'm sure if he had called OMP that they would of fixed him up but he was just to lazy to worry about it. Heck the katana of his has been in the box for 2 months already. From what I have read BOTH companys appear to look after there customers real well.

Thanks Accel,
Dave

RE: OMP Yak54, OMP Edge, or Mojo

OK - I flown both the katana and the mojo and loved the mojo and like the kat. My mojo as you read died and I have since ordered a kit and an ARF. The ARF will get together first and the kit will take a bit when I have spare time. I feel the mojo to be the better of the 2 by a decent margin. My katana will not do a normal harrier at all. To get it to sorta harrier it needs to be at a 65-70 degree angle and that makes it more of a hover than anything else. My mojo would harrier around at prtty much any angle and didn't care. For general flying they both are as good as anything with a fun-fly type wing. The mojo has a 2" shorter wing span I think and there for fits in my car better than the kat.

The mojo is in my mind the top 3D profile in the forty class HANDS DOWN !!!!!!!

MOJO65-9or10 How bad is your midaired MOJO??

I have seen some pretty bad looking wrecks brought back to life really fast. If the tube is not broken it probably wont be that hard to heal.

Yup yup. It's a little old but you get the idea. It starts off slow with a little circle flying and then goes to the 3D stuff. 11.6mb. Please right click and save as?

well, that is all the convincing i need. nice video.

the only other thing.. would it be worth it to build the yak or arf it as far as weight goes? how much could be saved on the kit..?

RE: OMP Yak54, OMP Edge, or Mojo

i own the katana gs, omp edge, and mojo, all 40 sized planes..........i like the mojo best at 3lbs 14 oz, flys very light and i will always have one,..........omp edge at close to 4 and a half lbs but flys awsome with a ys 63.i like this one also.........the katana is just under 5 lbs and doesnt harrier very well compared to the other two, but is way better than my twist, but my next plane will be the yak or maybe a badboy, hmmmm, always nice to have choices......fusion?????????

RE: OMP Yak54, OMP Edge, or Mojo

My midaired mojo is long gone and I just finished off my katana P and now have the gear going back into a mojo that I hope to maidin in the morning. I also have a mojo65 coming together and can't wait. I just wish I had more time to build!

Of the two, I like the mojo better because I could harrier it all over the place even though my skills were nowhere as good then as they are now. Everything has been said a hundred times about the kat being a great plane but it don't harrier or elevator anywhere s good as the mojo 40 does. "PERIOD"

Thanks. I'm not sure about the weight of the ARF as I've never seen one in person. It's just too much to ship the big box of the ARF to South Africa. I don't think you are going to save much on the weight between the two but yes with carefull sanding anything is possible. Personally I love building anyways so I'll take a kit anytime over an ARF. Especially if it's an OMP kit.
