well since flying off water is...well...safer i plan to fly my cub off water but...

i have had trouble funding the store bought floats ($150+) and since reading that they arent all that expensive(or difficult) to build i think ill try to build my own
my cub is 1/4 scale and can weigh up to 20 lbs

my main concern is on the angles at the bottom i have basically all the ones i have looked at have a "V" shape on the bottom. even if you dont have the mathmatical equation for the correct angle maybe just mesuring the botton of the floats you own would be a step in the right direction

every thing else figured out except for the bottom and how to mount it to the cub ie landing gear attachment

i was thinking to keep the original ground gear and build in a removeable set fot the back

what ya think?

I agree! 150 bucks is a little steep for some hunks of styrofoam or hollow wood! When it comes to building floats I highly recommend making them out of styrofoam and then using balsa sheeting or fiberglass cloth to cover them. I also recommend FLAT BOTTOM floats. They seem to come off the water better as long as the step is in the right place. The biggest concern with building the floats is the step location. I am in class (college) right now, but when I get home tonight (late). I will e-mail you a set of float building guidelines. (these help with wood or foam floats) They tell you how long, how wide, and where the step should go. If you do decide to use foam, I can give you some info on where to obtain some big chunks of it and how to cut it.
