I have just completed building a Morris Hobbies Top Cap, and would appreciate any help setting it up. I have a Futaba 6XAS
transmitter, and have have an MDS 40 engine. I have flown an
Extra 300 and an Ultimate 40 and a Kyoso Stearman all with OS 70 four strokes. Thanks in advance for any help.

First question is what do you want to do with it? 3D or general sport flying?
I have my Top Cap set up for 3D on a T6XAS also. Its very easy to program this radio. So let me know what your looking for.

First off start with the recomended throws and balancing points as per instructions.
Second of all, put one of those OS 70's on it!

Saito 72 sounds like the way to go. What is the weight of this engine? Hopefully around 16~17oz or less. Also is this engine discontinued? The Saito 56 much lower in power? I seen a 56 on some other aircraft and it looks to have quite the authority powerwise.
Currently I'm going to scratch my own profile design with idea's from all the Morris profiles I've built in the past. The end result will be similar to the Aeron, fat wing, topcap tail like feathers,tall fuse (for knife edge) and maybe a thicker/wider fuse for extra rigity for the 4 stroke. All trying to keep the airframe lightweight.
You guys, you'll love your top caps. Fantastic flyers. Myself I've had one but am looking to try something different.

Your only going to like this combo if your into 1/4 throttle TR's and hovers, 1/3 throttle Harriers and tons of power. ;)

I am using a Master airscrew 13 X 6. It was the break in prop and it did so well on the plane I havnt changed it since.

I flew it yesterday at the new club I just joined and the guys who saw it said that they have seen these Morris profiles before but none that had the power and maneuverability as mine does.

I have mine set up for MAX Defelction on all surfaces. Because of that I run 80% Expo to make it flyable.

Your gonna love this thing. Is yours built yet?

Yea..I've been flying mine throughout the summer with a 46 FX and tuned pipe! AWESOME plane! I love it! Now hopefully I will get to love it more. ;)

Oh yea...How do you get yours to harrier?? Mine does the old mini stall thing where its just not locking into the maneuver. Stall strips? Spoilerons?

I tried the stall strips and they made the tumbling stuff better but the high alpha stuff seemed to suffer so I removed them.
I do have spoilerons set up and use them about 1/2 the time. They do help in holding the nose up during a harrier but what is really helping is the 13 inch prop blast on the tail.
Just imagine yours when you get rid of the weight of that tuned pipe!

I can't believe how light the Saito 72 is! Shouldn't be much weight gain at all considering I had a honkin tuned pipe on there! :D But the raw 4 stroke power will be awesome!

Do you actually fly all the time with max throws or is that your high rate??

How much spoilerons do you use? How do you set them up? You mix them with the elevator or use the knob? I can't wait till I get that 9ZAWC2! Will make my life easier! After I figure out how to program the darn thing!

My high rate is ridiculous on the throws and the low rate is just slightly less ridiculous. The only way its flyable that way is I have tons of Expo set on all surfaces. With all that expo, if you use a light touch your not into the max deflection but when you need it its right there.

I'll have to look at the radio to see how much "flapperons" I use. I have it mixed with elevator and set on a switch so they dont have be active all the time. On the T6XAS its called "2-6 mixing."

Thanks to Wayne, the BBS's, glossy magazines, internet sites, and my own weaknesses, I have ordered a Saito72 for my TopCap. To mention, I have on hand the Irvine 53 and ST 51 that I ordered for this project. So, the stock 6 oz tank is a squeeze as it is. How much fly time on a .72. I'll venture to say 8 conservative minutes....
I would like to learn more of the mix strategy too. What about just getting blatant with a gyro.

I use the stock tank in mine and easily get 12 mins out of it. Remember, Your going to be at 1/3 throttle or less most of the time.
I had the ball link for my throttle fall of one day right after takeoff. The throttle was stuck at about 3/4 and it flew for about 7 mins till the tank was dry. So, with a little throttle management you wont even know you have only a 6oz tank in there.

I got a YS 63, w/ 14x4 zinger, it will hover at about 4 clicks of throttle, I have the ARF version of the top cap, weights 4.5 lb,

I forgot to tell you that the YS 63 weighs, 18.3 oz (excatly, I weight it at the Post Office) w/ check valve, H9 fuel filter, and all the fuel tubing, thrust washer, standard prop nuts, and muffler.

I set mine up with hitec 225 on elevator, rudder, and throttle,
Jr 517 standard BB, on alerons,
1100mh batt.
8 oz hayes fuel tank inside wing,

4.5 lbs on my old fruit scale,
