Has anyone got any thoughts on using a Sig ultimate funfly profile for 3-D flying? I have one and am considering trying it.

I've seen it done with an old OS .70 4 stroke.

What kind of flight charactaristics did it have? Mine flew well on a Royal 40 but would not hang in the prop. I am thinking of putting a super tigre 60 on board. I think that should do it. But I wonder if it would be too "jittery" with the short wing span.

I have a sig ultimate funfly with a os 46 fx it has very good verticle and inverted flat spins good ,also good knifeedge. I do not think you need any more power than a 46fx.

I am hoping to be able to hang it in the prop, back it to the ground, and then pull straight up with no problem. I don't have a "great" reason for this other than I have always wanted to be able to. It would likely make 3D flying easier. What do you think? Will this be too much?

try it with a os 50 same size/weight and you will have 10% more power.

60 on Ultimate Bipe Profile
Soulman - Realize that if you put a 60 on the Ultimate Bipe profile, you'll add a great deal of weight the front end. If you want to hover, you'll want the aircraft to be tail heavy. With the 60, you'll then have to add weight to the tail to offset the weight of the 60. Now the wing loading will be so high between the 60 and the extra tail weight, the aircraft will fly like sh*t!! You want some real power, that is light weight, then look into the Webra 50. Have have 6 of 50s & 4 - 32s, that should tell you something. The Webra 50 runs about $130 US. I much prefer the Webra over the OS, etc. etc. but this is more personal preference than anything else. You want a good light motor with allot of punch for the money, buy the Mecoa - Tom Cat 46 for about $64. It is the old OS46 SF. Its hard to beat at this cost. Or a TT 46 Pro for about $75. It shoulds like you Royal is just too tired :o because it should hover that aircraft with a 11x4 prop.
Hope that this helps you out! Kevin :D |

Since you did not say that you wanted to go the cheap route, consider what I did. I have one with a ys 63 four stroke. It is only slightly heavier than a 46 including muffler. The pump on the ys makes all the difference in running performance. Put a 12.25x3.75 prop on it and hover at 1/2 throttle. Works for me, but at $244.00 ouch.

Kevin, you make a couple of points that I never thought about.
1. wing loading. Heavy makes crap flight 2. Prop selection. I have been running a 10 x 6 master airscrew. I am just beginning to learn about the difference that the selection makes. I have been flying for 12 years but never as part of a club till now and am learning lots that I have been missing out on. This site and especially the users, are quite valuable to me. The royal 40 pulls very hard. I don't think that it is worn out: but rather that I have not been treating it to the right prop. I will have to try different combo's and see what difference it makes.Yes this is verry helpful!! Thanks ;) |

i hvae seen one with a saito.72 hover, i hovered it and hovered good, nned some up thrust tho

Upthrust?
Sounds like someone screwed up the incedence somewhere!
I'd strongly suggest that you try an 11x4 or 11.5x4 with a header and tuned pipe or moose can muffler on that Royal. Also, throw out that Master Airscrew. Try a Zinger, ecspecially if you spend the time to modify it as 3Dreaming suggests in the Props thread. You can also try an APC, though you won't get the response rate out of the APC that you would with a woody :D Kevin :D |

great plane ...but.. Mine has a 72 satio and it will do alot of stuff hovering is kinda like a monkey standing on a football.. OMP is the best ... Doug

funfly!!!!!!!!!
I use a Saito .72 in mine, mounted servos in the fuse just in front of the stab. will hover at 1/3 throttle and torque roll, CG is a little aft but flys good, My favorite plane.

Won't need to experiment with props for a while.... Wings are both back in one piece now, gear is straightened, muffler is fixed, and soon I'll start to cover. 2 1/2 snaps and into the next manouver... at 50' altitude.... I hate it when it gets quiet like this... c-r-u-n-c-h. I lost track of time and ran out of fuel and lift.
I bought a timer now. Thanks to all for all your help!! |

The prop I mentioned above turned out to be too little. Too many RPM,s. I have been using a 13 x 6 APC and a 13 x 6 scimtar. Both work well. I can not say How much I love the combination of the Ys .63 and the OMP. Hovers at less than 1/2 throttle and pulls out like a rocket.
