Hey ProBro,

Its amazing what happens when you have a digi camera.

If we have a ProBro Fly-In in the Houston area, you will be one of the few to see a surviving Hovering Cobra.

Once produced by Bolly and designed by Quique, most were crashed because of the super high roll rate and the lack of support of the tail. As you see, the fuse is about half the width of most fun-flys. In addition to that, there are lighting hole throughout the fuse. Bolly discontinued the kit several years ago and since then, the kit division of Bolly has been sold off. The new owners, in New Zealand, do not have the planes or kits and Bolly claims not to have them either. It was a plane several years ahead of its time, in design, weight and flight characteristics.

This one has survived, thanks to support strings that go from the vertical stab to the wings. If it wasn't for the strings, I would have ripped the tail off years ago. I have had this one for 4 years and I was told the guy who built it, had it for only a few months and was unable to fly it.

I'll put this baby up against any of your Top Caps, Fazers, Ex-330's, Sledge and the other assorted profiles. :-)

Best tricks: it will do a Pinwheel (sometimes called a double hammerhead) and the inverted flat spin to deck and pop out into a hover.

Can't wait to takeover a field with Brotherhood.

Well I talked to Darrel at Amarillo Hobby House and he said somebody called in to set this plane back...but didn't know who it was (he didn't take the order)...

There was a built one in there last summer..don't know whos it was.

If I were you I would "reverse engineer" you plane to make plans out of it. that way the design isnt "lost"

heck if you do a good job the guys that own the rights may even buy (i dont expect for much) the plans off of you to redo the kit if they feel there is demand for it.

I've got a NIB Hovering Cobra. I just sold it, but before I ship it I will copy the plans and parts for scratch building purposes.

It's a great design... I scratch built one last year but reinforced the front end for a YS .63. This is the best hovering and torque rolling plane of this size I have ever flown and I'll put it up against anything. If anyone knows where an original kit is located... I'm looking for one.

As I stated earlier, I just sold a NIB Bolly Hovering Cobra. I made multiple copies of the plans, instruction manual, and all the laser cut parts. I am going to have this information scanned into CAD files so I can have a couple of short kits laser cut for me.

Your cobra seems to have a longer tail than the stock version. The Cobra is very short coupled. Do you know if yours was modified?

The Cobra design was sold to a Company NZ if my memory serve me good, so not to legal to copy........they have a long tail moment, yes I did have one, that I purchase from Falcon Hobbies.

The tail twisted very badly in flight went doing aerobatics but after a little mod she still twisted but it stayed together.....I lost the plane at a fun fly, the elevator servo screw back off just enough to let the arm rotate by itself....yes my fault.

A good friend built one and we flew it about 2 weeks before selling it. Very flimsy design. IMHO, the OMP edge will outfly the hovering cobra in any maneuver. To me, they are not even close in performance.

As the name states hovering cobra it was designed to learn to hover and it will also torque roll but it will do other manuevers as well you just watch as the tail tries to keep up but have never had a problem with it even touching the tail when hovering.
It will not take full power passes but that is what throttle management is for. It is also one of the better hovering planes I have flown also very stable in using to learn to harrier and such.
so I guess opinions differ but I find it to be a great plane.

Just got my first two sets of laser cut parts! Converted the design to use all english measurement woods (no metric hybrid stuff like the original). Parts fit is excellent. The tough part was finding someone who could laser cut the 6" x 48" stock needed for the fuse pieces.

Sitting in my sons room. He is gonna build it, when he is ready for it.

Funny thing, I just put my YS 45 and took off the old and tired ST 45. Mine has not flown in 2 years, Its flyn tomorrow. Gonna get a test flight on it before the Pro Bro.

Well I picked one up last weekend and started building it that Sunday, I'm now finished with the airplane and ready to start covering it. I understand about bracing the tail but did I understand correctly to do the same thing with the wing?

Good Points -- VERY Lite!
-- Got it CHEAP NIB for $50 bucks
-- Neat

Bad Points -- Why do you need to build up ailerons on a funfly?
-- Can you say weak FUSE?
-- Standard Servos don't fit in the wing saddle area had to modify a little
-- Whats with the gear set up?

What engine should I use? I've got a STRONG TT 46 I just took off my pro twister (I swing a APC 11 x 4 prop) that should do!

I will build another one of these except build up the FUSE for Sure and put regular fun fly landing gear in it and put a 61 engine in!

For the record the book does point out that this airplane is for practicing Hovering and Torque rolling. It even said the prefered method of launch is by hand. They do make it clear that this is not a fun fly for fun airplane (That didn't make sense - did it?) But to practice on.

Well This thing is about done. If the weather is nice this week or weekend I'll take it out and give it a wirl. I still need to attached the wing tip wires and brace the tail with fishing line. Mounted the engine and hooked up the radio this evening. I can't believe how fragile this thing is. If anybody else builds one and want's it some what durable, I suggest sheeting the side with either 1/8 balsa or some real lite ply. Anyway here's some pics......
