Knife ARF Hovering
...you know the Knife's pretty stable in a hover because even i can handle it - (so far, anyway)...

...my picture wouldn't post - the file's too big...

Looking good GBond!
Wish I would have a nice parking lot like that close to work, so I can fly at lunch ! |

...still working on it - let's see if i can damage a vehicle and destroy an airplane all in one shot...maybe a little more body english...

Knife ARF Hovering
You know that there wouldn't be much left of the Knife if it goes in when the engine flames in a low hover over the paved parking lot. But I guess that's what makes it so interesting :D

...well, i'm making progress anyway - still got a LONG ways to go -
yeah, it's pretty handy - soccer field parking lot about 3 miles from home - about 37 degrees yesterday when we took the pics - this is my first time to post pics - trying to get it all figured out - this size must look better on RCU... |
Knife ARF Hovering
...i wasn't as far away from the plane as the picture makes it look like - but i don't know how to adjust it for that...
|
Knife ARF Hovering
...i agree, an asphalt parking lot is not the best place to be hovering - it's close to home, though - pretty handy when you don't have a lot of time - our grass field is 17 miles away...no flame-outs over the parking lot yet...
...last summer, i was hovering (quite a bit higher back then - probably around 15 feet) out at our grass field and ran it out of fuel - luckily, i was just off the end of the runway - over the taller grass - i held full up on the way down & it brought the nose up just enough - zero damage! - i had a major rebend job on the aluminum landing gear, though...pretty lucky... |
Looking good
Cool pics! Looking pretty good GBond just don't hit that Blazer in the background. The four stroke seems to help a little bit too. I can't wait to get my U-Can-do going w/Saito 100. Oh yeah and as the photographer I can say that the plane was not near that far away. Maybe I need to read the manual on that new camera. What was it that somebody said about hovering being an addiction....I think it might be more like a sickness!!! Snap, Flip and oh Crap I forgot to turn off that mixing switch. Crash!!

Knife ARF Hovering
...yeah, and time those flights!!! - (you know, the little timer thingy they put on those radios)..hehe!...heliplane has experience with what happens when you run a Freestyle out of fuel when doing a low level harrier over an asphalt parking lot!...

Knife ARF Hovering
I picked up a morris knife arf (built perfect) with a mvvs.49 for $195 at the swap meet last weekend. Some old guy said he flew it once (odds are it was too much for him and he pulled the radio), couldn't tell he'd ever flown it. Anyway I'm putting in the radio now, a JR x-347 7ch PCM system. I think I'll like it better than the 2 morris hots kits I've had in the past.
Just 1 question, I hovered my hots with the flaperon switch off, it seemed to hover better with out them. Will this bird be the same or are you guys hovering with flaperons? From what I've been hearing it's gonna hover alot easier than my hots did, so I guess I'll find out soon enough. |
Knife ARF Hovering
either way on or off.....I felt like some of my birds would hover better if the flaperons were on....but since I been in TR training I been trying it with them off. I have a "Chinese Torq Master from the Far East" given me pointers.<GRIN>....Gator

A little hint for the photographer. To make the plane look closer, stand back from the pilot a little more and zoom in on them both.

Thats what I figured Gator, whats your take on it Tailspnr you obviously have a knife arf?
|
Knife ARF Hovering
Hoverit, I guess Ive never tried to just hover mine. I guess I've always just let it enter a torque roll if I get it vertical enough. But I usually dont have it quite stable enough to TR very much. But what I have found is that the Knife is without a doubt the best/easiest plane I have ever had to hover or TR. But now that I think about it.......what is the advantage to having the flaperons turned on? Just to help you with elevator or to keep it from torquing?
Hmmmmmmm....... |
Knife ARF Hovering
...i've done it both ways - since you get more lift with the flaps down it seems like it has more of a tendency to come over backwards on you out of a hover - i think i prefer it without flaps, too...
|
Knife ARF Hovering
Sometimes I accidently leave the flaperons or spoilerons on while hovering and don't even notice until later in the flight. So I guess they really don't make much difference :p
Normally, I leave them off while hovering the Knife. |
Knife ARF Hovering
I leave the flaperons off while hovering the Knife. That works best for me.

Knife ARF Hovering
Nice job Gbond!

Knife ARF Hovering
...thanks - the next hurdle?...low torque rolls - the most torque rolls i've ever pulled off with the Knife is 2 in a row (once) - but i was 15-20 ft. in the air...

Hello All! I agree with termagator. It depends on the plane. I have one profile that is a real nightmare without the flaperons on. My latest doesn't seem to mind either way.
