Modeltech Magic?
Guys, I just bought a Magic and new TT.42 and a standard Macs header to make my MCP with. I should have asked this question earlier but will the standard Macs pipe work with this plane or should I have gotten the "long" or "extra long" pipe?
And any feedback from guys flying this combo would be nice too. Thanks, Tailspnr |

The standard is probably perfect. i use one on a GMS 47 on the magic. The mouse can should clear the fuselage just fine nwith the standard header. The long ones would have stuck out quite a bit.
In case you are concerned about tuning length, the headers come a little longer than you need. you will end up trimming an inch and a half or more while you are tunning it. |

Be sure to have the pipe in place when you place your engine mounts.
Mine ended up with the engine @ 10 o'clock. With the standard header everything ends up pretty much tucked in along the side of the fuse. The long one interferes with the landing gear in that position, but if i had placed the engine @ 8 o'clock, the can and long pipe would have extend between the gear, and would have been fine too. (untill the landing gear gives way) |

Okay Shmo, I think I may have been better off if I had gone with the Long pipe since I want my pipe in the center under the gear. Right now in order for me to have the engine located where it should be (proper center of thrust) but turned down with the head at about 8 oclock so the pipe runs out at the bottom, I am going to have to off center the entrance of my pipe into the Mousse can. Otherwise the can will be up against the gear. Hence I think for the bottom exhaust installation you are better off with a long pipe. If I had elected to run the pipe off the side the standard pipe would have been fine.
Now as far as the landing gear goes I have read about all of the problems with the gear breaking at the welds so I wrapped mine with thin copper wire and soldered it. Hopefully this will add enough strength to prevent it from breaking. What does yours weigh. Since Im running a TT.42 plain bearing engine Im hoping it comes out at the 3.5lb range. I think I may have this together for some flying this weekend. The plane showed up on my doorstep this evening and I started on it around 9:00 and It's about half way ready. Truly the easiest ARF I have ever thrown together. |

Oops!, Yup that thrust line wants to be kinda high on the firewall. I have the long one too. The long one places the centerline of the header about 2 1/4 inches out from the exhaust port. i think they make an extra long but i don't know how far it sticks out.
Defiately an easy arf to toss together! Mine came out to 4 pounds with standard servos small battery and the GMS 47. Some folks on RCU fuss about the power and weight, but no one who has seen mine fly has ever said anything like that... I can't coment about the strength of landing gear welds. My UC fell off on thte second flight! :D ( the plastic caps are brittle ) we never did find them. might be worth a trip to the LHS for some DUBRO plastic straps. fun plane, enjoy! |

Well I had the LHS order me a Macs long pipe today. When I saw what the weather.com was forecasting tomorrow I decided not to rush the completion.
Where did you install your battery and reciever? I am still wondering where mine is gonna go. And boy arent those wing tips fragile? I already have a repair to one and it hasent even left the house. |

Radio space is very limited. I used a mini servo (HS 81) for throtle and placed it close to the right side. That made room for a 270mAH batt to slide in under the servo tray. Ive had two recievers in it. the hitech 555 fits neatly behind the tank just wrapped in foam, the Jr 6 channel is longer so i had to squeeze it partially under the tank. I had to heat up the tank with an air gun and deform it so the wing would sit on the saddle. I ended up using a Sulivan 6 ounce slant. Oddly enough, bigger engines and smaller tanks work great on this plane. I get 16-18 minutes (mostly half throtle) on 6 ounces.
I have read here that someone had attached his battery to the wing just above the elevator servo. i like that idea even better, but i probably won't try it till it is time to build another. Ive been lucky with the wing tips so far. Ive broken the fuse in half and knocked the motor off the front in two separate unschedualed landings, (flame outs can be a real pain) but no damage to the tips, just a ding on the LE. One of these days i am going to have to figure out how to get digital pictures down to a size that i can post here. |

Shmo....thats not the encouraging words that I wanted to hear. Being that I intend on using a 600mah pack and a full size receiver. I guess I'll jusy have to stuff it all in there.......and maybe the battery to the bottom of the wing thing will work.
