pbf arf
I'm at the field the other day and a guy just finished stuffing his pbf into the dirt. He didn't have a prop or something and took off the rx for another plane. He showed me the pbf (only one I've ever seen) and said he got it on e-bay for 20 bucks. So I ordered one today. I have a old Magnum 40 laying around and why not. Hopefully, it will last until the fly-in. Can't wait.

Take a look at this site for info. The pizza box flyer is one of the most fun to fly planes I've ever owned. They are extremely easy to make and more durable than anything except maybe a Zagi.
Here's the link. http://mypage.yhti.net/~dmcdnld/pizzabox.htm Jason |

What are the length and width of the PBF in the picture. It looks longer that it is wide. If there is a difference could you explain why you made the changes. I have tried 24" square and 28" square and they handle a lot different.

pbf arf
Bad Andy,
gonna try....just started my knife this afternoon....looks like an easy build. If i can have it done in next two weeks then i will more than likely make it....gonna bring the pbf too. Do you know if there is a motel where everyone is staying? bigbigjoe, what is the difference in handling between the different sizes? |
hacker
The standard size, 24" square, is more aerobatic. It spins tighter and faster and is more radical in general. The 28" square is better at slow flight. It is more stable at slow speeds and Harriers and hovering are super easy. They weigh about the same and the bigger one has a much lighter wing loading. I have one with a Saito 30 four cycle on it and it is such a pleasure to fly at slow speeds and in the wind it is a ball to fly. You can get it flying sideways slowly about 5 foot off the ground right in front of you and it does all this like it is in slow motion.
Here is a tip for all PBF flyers. IF you cut the engine to idle you can let the nose down and it won't do the death dive. It is easier on a windy day to bring the plane in to land because if you keep the nose up at low throttle in the wind it will hardly sink and it takes forever to bring the plane in to land. |
hotels nc
I also go to 2 cl contests in Huntersville nc (just outside of charolette) and we all usually stay at the redroof inn or the motel 8. Hey Pinhead, give some info on the hotels close to your field buddy. BAD ANDY

Andy, Hows about a couple of pics of your LG. I think I might try to put some on mine.......John

gear
Hey John, the gear was made similar to the magics gear, with 1/8 music wire. Very simple design and held on with 3 gear straps and the same screws for attaching the coroplast to the spline. BAD ANDY
Also John, do you have any birds ready to sale? I have a set of tale feathers and a wing from my old top cap and I need to build a fuse for it. |
pbf arf
I cant keep nothing. As soon as I get em built They are gone. If you want one I'll have to put your name on it. I could have you a Gee Bee built in a couple of weeks. It wont actually take me that long to build it but I am trying to finish school.(HVAC) Let me know...............John

Did the gear for the Magic come pre-made or did you have to braze it together? I think I'm gonna have to do a little something to that to because it is a bit flimsy. Has anybody made any mods to their Magic gear?............John

pbf arf
i added cross braces to my magic gear when i had mine.
thx chris |
gear
The gear came out of the box that way. I used 1/8 hardend music wire. The stuff that is hard as hell to bend and just silver soildered it together. I did wrap with copper wire before I heated them up. BAD ANDY
