Tail touch
I find that if I limit myself to a few inches I can usually get a Bounce on the tail just from a slight altitude change. On my Top Cap it sometimes flips over and it lands on its back. Usually doesnt hurt it.

Tappin it!
Don't try so hard to touch the tail!! just hover it as low as you can. it'll touch on it's own.. If you have a head wind, it helps. Get good at it with a head wind first. Just make sure you're pointed straight into the wind. And don't force it!
here's a pic. copy this to your adress field. http://www.rcuniverse.com/attachment.php?postid=29586 |
Tail touch
well right now its impossible to hover it fully vertical because we are having 10-15mph winds :(

Tail touch
I've been so desperate lately with all of the winter weather, that I trim the plane with some down elevator so it will fight the breeze for me. I will sure be glad to see some warm, calm weather again!

tail touchdown
When you are hovering your plane vertically, nothing about it is actually flying, what you are effectively doing is thrust vectoring the prop wash. So a sustained touch is impractical as you lose the ability of your tail to do any vectoring...learned this the hard way over water, no brainer right?, wrong answer the rudder power would in effect have to be able to vector entire plane along its fuse line, so it just falls to the side..is this making any sense?

Wayne,
Maybe if you had a TT46 on that TC instead of SAITO, you could keep it off its back!! :) |
Tail touch
I test flew my friends morris knife today for him,let me say wow.I've never much been into funflying,I had a fun tiger, but that was a giant piece of junk.My buddy bought the arf and asked me to fly it for him. Thanks, now I'm hooked. That plane did things that had me laughing the whole time I flew it.When I finally landed it into the wind,it had almost no forward momentum, the ground roll out was maybe 2 inches.Great, now I've got to go get one.I think I might like to try the kit though, maybe the su do koi.Any input on this plane?I'm still smiling when I think about it.

Tail touch
I think it would be a hoot if someone would use a photo editing program to sink a plane up to about the wing or so in the water! :)

Tail touch
I too, have come to grief tail-touching. I am thinking of mounting model car shocks on the tail to absorb the shock of an inadvertently excessive descent rate, so I can let it all hang out. Most tails not meant to function as alternate landing gear, and a free fall of as little as a couple of inches will probably break all but the most rugged tail feathers.

Tail touch
They all will end up upside down once in a while. I usually just take it home and a little glue and some packing tape (I'm getting lazy) and go try it again. My buddies will tell you I won't quit till I break something. But you have got to admit there is nothing like your first tail touch! Its a good thing the small 11 inch props aren't too expensive:)
