Mike,
Tell us the "real story". You wouldn't have ripped that rudder off if you hadn't been flying inverted with the rudder scraping the ground! :D

I took off the OPM tuned pipe and made a mini-tuned pipe out of my TT muffler. That sucked so I made this one. It's a 6oz White Rain mousse can and Webra muffler mutation. It's lighter than the OPM pipe and header. It also gives a little more RPM and above all is easy to make.

That's also a pic of the 12.25x3.75 APC that I cut down and balanced for my TT 42.

does anybody have any info on the "Fun Air 40 from Jet Hobbies in Canada" talked about at the begining of this thread

dntmn,

Yeah, I do. Every time all call up there they say they're out of them and expecting more. What good was it to be put on the waiting list if they sell them to everyone else but those on the list.

That Fun Air is cool, it's just hard to get because it's a hot seller. I'm tired of trying to get one so I'm going to back order a Heckler 3D from Tower Hobbies.

Here's the number for Jet Hobbies in Canada (Fun Air 40): (604) 278-3855

They have a Fun Air 25 too.

This sounds good, but where can I see the Fun Air 40? Do they have a website?

dntmn,

Their website is www.jet-hobbies.com. They used to have a picture of it on the site. When they sold out the first time, they took the plane off the internet catalog. I'll bet if you email them at [email protected], they'll email you some pics. If they do, put them up on this thread. If you're familiar with the Weston Cougar, you'll definately see the similarity in the Fun Air's. They are pretty cool people, just a slight language barrier.

When you go to their sight, you'll be amazed at their prices. They have quite a few planes, really nice big planes, scale and aerobatic for under $175.

Good luck.

thanks,
I like the purple scheme, i bet the Fun Air 20 would really rip with a TT .36 Pro

I think your right. I also think that the 20 would make a great electric too. Most "park flyers" or electrics just don't have the size and ability. A big cobalt motor in that thing would hover it I'm sure. I've seen electric Magic's and they're actually pretty impressive.

I have a OS 46fx on my magic. dual ball bearing servos on ailerons, and hitec 645 on elevator, standards on rest. I just put a hitec electron 6 receiver, and programed elevator flaperon mixing. I am going to try it like that tomorrow, weather permitting. I love my magic it flys great, it will flatspin, harrier, hover, the only thing it won't do is nife edge. I have had a lot of fun with it so far, and I am planning on having more fun.

The Magic Stands Again ! ! !

Well I had to show off my not so pretty handy work on the Magic gear. But I guess I'll prefice this by telling you that 2 weeks ago while in houston, I flat spun the Magic into the ground due to having my rudder chewed off by a propeller (mid-air) of an oncoming plane previously in the flight. Needless to say that when the Magic smacked the ground, the gear that was already held together at the lower tack welds, were then held together with duct tape, broke into 5....yes 5 seperate broken/seperated peices....LOL. One of the pieces happens to be about 2 inches of the lower axle.

Let's just see how long it takes me to bend them up again:D

TailSpnr,

Those landing gear don't even look used!

LOL!
Do you remember what mine looked like when we were at Houston?

Tailspnr,

Go to the hardware store and get a small cylinder of MAPP gas. It will work with any propane torch tip you may have laying around. In addition, get some 3/32 prefluxed brazing wire. You can fix Magic gear and/or make your own out of 1/8 music wire from your LHS.

I've busted mine a bajillion times, but they never break in the same place twice since I started brazing them myself.

Lazy Pilot, ;) Ive already got the mapp gas. Had to buy it last year to repair the water jacket for my boat.

I was at the LHS the other day and looked at their music wire selection and the proper diameter of wire seemed extremely heavy as compared to the stock Magic wire. But Im sure Im gonna have to figure out something.

Take a look at my new rudder. Latch...you remember what it looked like. I actually made this just a hair taller and about a 3/4" deeper.

I had broken my gear when the engine leaned in a low hover. So I too made a trip to the LHS and bought 1/8 inch music wire. The only 2 pieces he had were really shiny, chrome like. I bent the pieces up and TIGed the together. The metal was really crappy and the weld mad it really brittle. So I had the LHS just get a set of replacements. Now its ready to hit the field again(LOL).

Bucketobolts, Thats probably the easier solution. Just out of curiousity how much was the replacement gear?

BUCKETOBOLTS 03-30-2003 04:19 PM

Magic owners thread

It was $11.95, he didn't charge any shipping because I asked him to get it with his regular order. He actually got 2 sets and I should have picked up the other for a spare. The gear does come with all the collars, clamps and screws as in the kit.

tailspnr 03-30-2003 04:22 PM

Magic owners thread

Hmmmm.....you know I should go ahead and order a set too. Its only a matter of time before I destroy the set I have now. And if I find myself with a new set of gear I'll know exactly where and what to modify on them to strengthen them up before I tear them up.

The stock gear has been called junk, trash, ugly,... But it has saved my plane many times and is well worth $12. Everyone i know that changed to aluminum gear has pulled out the mounting blocks and eventully lost the firewall.

Balance

Where are you guys balancing your Magics? I just installed my new Rossi engine and moved the rudder servo to the rear of the plane.
It looks like the balance is about 5.5 from the firewall.

Opinions?

has anyone ever tried to modify the rudder or put some kind of fins like a profile on the fuse to make it knife edge better?

Yes,

jnjacksn built a very large "tail" extending from just behind the wing all the way back. It still wouldn't Knife Edge.

TailSpnr,

The rudder/vertical stab looks great!

How are your flat-spins coming along?

I don't really know where mine is balanced. I moved it back until it did not need any correction when in inverted flight.

My Magic is about 5" back.
