Morris sledge building question

"so feel free to disregard any Sledge answers I give or have given."

We already do Chuck, don't worry... :D

I am kidding too...Just like you, I can't resist.

I am going to use a Pro .46 with a Tower muffler on mine. It used to pull my 4 lb Extra Special out of a hover like a rocker, so it should be fine on the Sledge. I am thinking the Sledge will be around 4.5 lbs, so it should drag it out of a hover fast enough to get me out of trouble.

I might have to get one of those Irvine .53's that are real cheap now...It will match my color scheme! :)

Constrictor, email me your phone number and I will be happy to call you on my nickel and go thru any questions. If you are building 3 of them, lets get this first one right so they all fly like they should. The wing is critical to get straight, and yes there is no dihedral, the wing is intended to build top up (facing you). Then turn it upside down and sheet the bottom. Eventually I will come thru Springfield with work and we can get together. [email protected] Jeff W.

I am in the process of covering mine and just noticed something. The leading edge of the wing is completely flat...Is that how it's supposed to be?

Look at the full size plans, there is an end view of the wing tip and it shows a contour to the leading edge. It will be blunt, and be careful not to sand thru the sheeting. Jeff W.

My kit didnt have the preformed trailing edge material. Anybody else use anything different?...........John

mine didnt have anything "preformed" either. I just used 1/4 x 1/4 balsa

Well shoot, BRW!! After seeing the pics of the LE of the vertical stab on your Seduction, I just figgered you'd like that!

I may have permanently mounted my aileron servos, but I DID shape the LE LOL

Ya know Chuck, as I was covering the fin and rudder a couple days ago that's all I could think about...

Maybe I do want it that way! :D

About that pre-formed TE, mine was pre-formed into 1/4 inch square balsa...

Say it again Brian.....LOL

BotleRocketWar 04-08-2003 11:33 PM

OK...

The leading edge of my wing is completely flat.

I am going to cover it tomorrow, so if it's not supposed to be this way someone better object!

I sanded it where the sheeting meets the LE and that's about it. The only way for it to be rounded would be to add something to the front of it so there is some substance there for me to sand.

What am I missing?

You have to round off the leading edge. Just go back and sand from the center around to where the sheeting meets and change the shape of it............John

Its not suspose to be real pointy just kinda blunt but round.

Brian, make that leading edge rounded or you will be sorry. Read my post #29. It does say blunt but that does not mean flat. Blunt means not a pointed leading edge, just softly rounded. Jeff W.

LOL...

I think I will add a strip of 1/16 inch balsa so I have something to sand...

ChuckAuger 04-09-2003 12:42 AM

It'll work..

You shouldn't need to add anything. I had the same reservations as you, just kept at it and it turned out real purty. There is enough meat on the LE...just go with the force! (I know..as an idiot my credibility on Sledge advise is 0%, but it will work)

Actually it's your advice on everything...

Of course, I'll have to take it. I'll go at it tomorrow with my 180 grit... :)
