To all that own a Morris Hobbies Sledge 540 please read further. I received a prototype arf this winter and decided to try a counterbalanced elevator in the plane. I am very pleased with the improved performance of this tail and have decided to offer, at no charge, a simple plan available from me via email (if you have a cad program) or US Mail if you do not have a cad program. Do not call Morris for these, they will not have them at this time. I will offer either tail in the new kits, in fact you will have a choice of building it either way in the new kits. To get this new tail you must be a sledge owner, send me an email at [email protected] with the request, include your email address if you have a cad program, or include your US Mail address if you need a printed tail plan. Any questions on this please email me privately at the above email address, I rarely check Pvt Mess. from RCU so the service would be slower.
I know many of you will wonder what the observed performance enhancements are. Well, I have found it performs better walls, parachutes and tighter spins (upright only the inverted is no difference). If you have a built sledge, I am not sure it is worth the trouble to build a new tail but if you are as performance driven as me, it might be worth it. Hope this helps all of you sledge profilers. hey jeff, what kind of equipment do you use on your own sledges? servos, radio, engine, prop, rx, battery, etc?

Wade, comedy is not my strong point either. The arf I got was a quality check of a certain manufacturer. I was lucky, it was rtf in 4 hours, seriously.
Lagcisco, I use
Airtronics Stylus transmitter
Airtronics standard servos (94102Z), switch, receiver (92777Z)
720 nimh 4.8v batteries
MVVS 49 with mini tuned pipe and 5% fuel
I switch between the zinger 11 X 4 and APC 11.5 X 4
Sullivan and Dubro hardware
Sonictronics servo arms
My own Carbon fiber landing gear
Usually ultracote, sometimes towerkote and monokote

I've read several posts stating that the MVVS engines are a little touchy in getting set right, or in other words a little finicky in their tuning. What's your take on this?

Certain models of the MVVS line are fickle. The 49, 91 and 160 all have new carbs and are great, easy to tune. I almost never use my electric starter and rarely touch the needles.

I forgot that you use Airtronics radio equipment. That's why I started to like you in the beginning... <G> :D

Where do you get those servo arms Jeff? I'd like to give them a try...

The strength and smoothness of Airtronics servos has always impressed me. Their recievers have always been tiny, while the other guys have just recently come out with little ones calling them "micro" and all that. Airtronics also gives you high capacity batteries to begin with...I guess it's our little secret.

Any idea what RPM that .49 will turn that 11.5x4?

I gotta tell you guys.....the post above, that appears to have come from me, DID NOT. I received an email indicating that I had received a post to a thread that I had subscribed to....this one....and upon reading it I realized that I did not write that post. Hell....I dont even own an MVVS....JWilliams can vouch for that.

Dont know whats going on...but I think maybe I need to change my password or something.

Wade, sure I have a split personality.....but you can rest assured the he knows nothing of RC nor MVVS'. As a matter of fact he only knows two things.......BEER and WOMAN and a few other odds and ends that are only associated with those two.

Scott, that is the weirdest thing that has happened to me on RCU. I wrote that yesterday as a reply to Wade and it showed up under your name, go figure. I have no idea how I did that. I mean I did not mean to, oh well.
Bottlerocketwar, I get those sonictronic servo arms thru Morris Hobbies, or your LHS should be able to order them. I love them, I was a Dubro arm user till I tried the sonictronic arms. I have not tached the mvvs 49 with the apc yet but when I do I will post the numbers. The engine has great transition too.

BTW: I can't say enough good things about how you have handled all the questions on RCU concerning the Sledge.

I talked to tailspnr, and we figure it out. He used my laptop at the Houston pro bro to check in on RCU at the hotel. He never logged out so when I used my laptop yesterday at work it was still signed in under his name. At least it we know there is no bug.
Kevin, latch he always wants something. He wanted to live at my house too. OK nuff harrassment of latch, he is a great guy. Those tail plans are in the mail.

Man! Y'all weren't suppose to figure my plan out!

I was going to be the "ProBro Bum".

I had it all figured out. I could stay with Paul a little while, then move on to Kevin's. Then go check out Jeff, and then down to see Ulf, then over to Gator's, then to Billy's, then to Scott's, then to Chuck's, etc. You get the picture now. I could cover my food, cot and flying supplies by helping build projects and by test flying new designs. It was such a great plan!

How many planes could we all build if we did not get on RCU?

Me personally, 8 to 10 planes. How about you guys?
