I've decided to build a Sirix Wasp and I'm considering using some of the new JR DS 368 servos in it. They bost 53 oz of torque while weighing only .80 oz.

Has anybody used these servos in their FF plane to save weight?

Don't know if this will help, but some of the sailplane forums I participate in highly recommend these. Typical use in a glider would be for the flaps which can undergo a lot of stress on launch and also on landing. Don't know if you really need the metal gears in a fun fly but I hear the holding power is impressive.

I'm building a wasp also and have been looking at light servo's. Those JR 368's look nice, but I'd have a hard time justifying the $70 price tag! Especially for a sirex wasp. Take a look at Hitec's HS-255 MG. It weighs .98 ounces has 55 oz/in of torque and is a little faster at .14 sec travel time. They may not be digital and they may weigh .18oz more a piece but that would only be .72 oz total more weight and you'd save about 160 bucks. (that's if you use 4 of them) If I were you I'd save the money and cut weight by using nelson's light film.

I've come to hate Hitec servos. I just took a $220 bath on some defective Hitec digitals, 5945s. They have a nasty habit of re-programming themselves, but Hitec dosen't feel it's a problem. It'll be a long time before spend any more money with those guys.

I'll either buy some JR mini digitals or some Multiplex ones. I just thought I'd ask around to see if anybody had already tried them and what they thought.

BTW, I'll try the lite film and the little servos. :)

I have the jr 368 in my h9 edge 540 on the elevators. mounted in the fuselage. they work great and very light. as far as fun flys. go with tower hobbies. I just got some ts-35mg mini servos 4.8 volt is 14sec. 55oz of torgue 6volt .11 sec and 67 oz. 32.99 and there new ts-59 low profile aleron servo is 27.99 4.8 is .18 sec and 61oz at 6.0 volts .14 sec and 76oz. these are the same as hitec servos. I use tower servos in alot of my cheaper planes and never had a promblem yet. but I did have to send in 10 hitec 5645 digital servos because there end points were messed up.

I couldn't agree with you guys more on Hitec Digi's. They definately have some bugs to work out. However, I have run many hitec analog servo's and they've run as good as JR, Fut and Airtronics... Maby I got lucky :D

You'll wanna go with dual aileron servo's for this bird... gives you a killer inverted flat spin and an incredibly tight loop radius.... Just extend the servo rails past rib #2 and mount 'em... Worked great for me... I also added a little ply so that I could get the servo up flush with the wing surface so I didn't have to fool around with slots for the push rods... I can send pics if you need it.

Been out two times with my new morris penknife, wingspan a whopping 36", I have a JR 368 on the elevator and another the rudder. Amazing little servos, I cannot express how nice these servos are. I was going to go with some hitecs then I heard about the reprogramming problems. Although not really necessary I put a JR 450 gyro in it that I picked up from the JR guys at a swap meet (they are only 45 minutes away). The JR 368 on the rudder loved it and let me torque roll easily (even in 10 mph winds). Anyway, long story short those 368 servos put out some real power, they may cost more but they don't have the difficulties of the hitec 225 (had some of those) and precision is amazing.
