Rear mounted Servos in Sledge 540????

I am planning on using an OS 70II four stroke on my Sledge. Should I mount the servos for the elevator and rudder in the rear of the fuse?? Anyone gone this route??? Jeff???

Thanks for any replies

Rob

I modified my fazer to have the servos in the tail but really wanted the pull pull on my sledge.

If you can't get the CG far enough back for some reason with the pull pull then, you might try moving 1 servo at a time to the tail until you get it to fly the way you want.

just my $.02

Smitty400, you can go stock and then put your receiver and battery pack in the aft area of the wing and that will move it back. Servos in the tail, not sure on the cg. I bet someone has done it but I do not know about them. You could drill some lightening holes in your 1/8" lite ply fuse doubler, be sure you do not put any holes where the gear will mount. Let me know how this works out for you.
3Dreaming has built two sledges, one of them weight 3lb 1oz. and flies unbelievable. I will have it on the video when it comes out.

LOL, that airplane in my avatar should be flying again in time for the Internet Fly-In. I gave it to a buddy who has repaired it. That's what happens when a servo doesn't obey your orders. LOL

I should have my 27% CA Extra 300L finished by next weekend. Hopefully it lasts longer than the DP Extra did. I also started another Knife kit this week so maybe I'll have it ready in time too.

I might suggest you move back only the elevator servo. The extra weight of the motor should allow for this. Then you will have no trouble with a crowding problem using a long servo arm with the rudder servo built into the wing. I would try the hitec 225 (metal gear) in this scenerio on the elevator- but that's just me

Sledge done

Thanks to everyone for their replies.

I ended up putting the two servos in the tail. I was a little concerned but once complete and everything done, balance point is just behind the spar. All up weight is 4 lbs 6.5 ounces. Not the lightes Sledge out there but should be a great performer. Headed to a club funfly tomorrow. BTW I ran my wiring internally for a clean installation.

Rear mounted Servos in Sledge 540????

Jeff,

Initial flights of my Sledge were this morning before the funfly. Really an easy model to hover. Easiest of any I have had so far. Motor combo has tons of power. Hover is literally at 1/4 throttle with the motor swinging a 14x4 APC. Have about 8 flights on the model now. Servos in the rear working fine. Still sorting out feel and throws for me. Only placed in the bottow third at the funfly today but hey it's a new model. Nice design Jeff and thanks to you and all for your input.

If anyone is interested I can post pictures of the installation.

Pictures!

Smitty400,

Please post pics! Latch66 is building my sledge and I requested he put the servos in the tail. A few pictures wouldn't hurt. Take your time, Latch moved last week and it will be a while before he gets far enough to need pics.
