Mojo 40 engine
 

I am looking at building my first kit. I want to start with a profile and figured I would go with the mojo. I have a GMS .47 2-stroke and was wondering if that would be enough motor for 3D. I wont be doing the removable wing since I have plenty of room in my vehicle. It doesnt have to be a rocket but I want to be able to pull out of a hover pretty good. Also what prop would you recommend. I have an OS 55 but its on an Extra 300 and really dont want to pull it off. I seen on youtube where someone uses a Magnum 46. How is the power compared between the Mag 46 and GMS 47.

Well I went ahead and bought the Mojo. I will just have to see about the motor when I get it.

Saito 82 would be your best bet. However, if you're decided between the Magnum .46 and GMS .47...I really wouldn't worry about power. I would run the MOST reliable engine, and nothing else. If you've ever had a dead-stick due to something other than an empty tank or tank issues I wouldn't use it on a profile plane. If you do, you won't be able to learn to 3d DOD. Practicing 3D at 1500' AGL isn't helpful either.

Suck it and see with the GMS. Run the 12 & 1/4 x 3 & 3/4 APC prop as a start.

THINK LIGHT when you put the Mojo together.

Sell both those motors and get you an OS .55AX or a Saito 82. Not kidding.

Congrats on an excellent choice in aircraft. As has been said, reliability is more important than absolute power. Good throttle response with no burbling or hiccups is also important. Built light, the MoJo can come in under 4 pounds and just about any modern 46 engine should be able to yank it around quite well at that weight. If you haven't already done so, visit www dot the****************** dot com and you will find a wealth of information on the MoJo and other cutting edge profiles. Be prepared, however, for all the rest of your planes to gather dust. :)

I may end up putting my 55AX on it but Im gonna try the GMS first since its just laying around.

What's up! There's a guy that came up the other day that uses a GMS engine......I think. Use what you have and then you can upgrade! If you need help with the Mojo, let me know. I'm just a phone call and about 5 minutes away! Glad to see that your leaning toward a Mojo!

Whats up Wess. I called you the other day before I ordered the plane but didnt get in touch with you. The YS is a little high for me right now still having to put money in my helis. I may need you when I get ready to cover my plane but it will probably be a while before I even start on the kit. I gotta work this Sunday and figure there wont be anyone at the field since its Easter but I will be there the next Sunday maybe we will have some good weather. I use those servos on just about every .40 size plane that I've got, so you'll be fine there. Everybody had a good time, just waiting to do it again.

One of the great things about the mojo is that you can go budget and still have a great flying plane.

I have one with a TT pro 46 and standard servos all around. Flies great.

Sure a nice 4 stroke is great but a standard 46 will have great power at a fraction of the cost.

You know, I have had and still have profiles w/.82's and 1.00's and I have them with 2strks. I just love the throttle response, power and simplicity of the 2strks with a Macs header and my own Mousse can pipes!!!!! The two strokes can be smacked time and time again and will usually keep right on going without any probs. One of my favorites is the TT .46Pro with the above setup and an APC 12x4 spinning @ 15,000rpm[>:] This was my fav. setup for a Mojo .40. Let us know what you decide to do and how it goes.

I agree and also the Macs tuned muffler but...... neither are quite like the ferocity of a good header/pipe setup!![:@]

Recommending a tuned pipe for 3D would ruin the experience IMO.
95% of 3D is below 1/2 throttle if you have selected the proper engine.
Tuned pipes are great for WOT but really kill the midrange which is where you should be at most of the time.

I have a mojo with a super tigre 45 and macs one piece muffler and the thing flies great. I ve used the macs on a lot of my other planes and i love them. I have never noticed them killing the mid range, and the weight savings is another bonus. I would recomend the macs one piece muffler on any profile if you don't mind having a black muffler.

If you read my posts I recommended the one-piece macs and dissed the tuned pipe and header combo.
