Need help with Cg on Something Extra
Haven't flown my something extra yet. Battery pack all the way forward and heavy hub and the CG is at 4 inches. I bought it used and tower hobbies web site said CG should be 3.5 inches. What do ya'll have your CG at? Am I asking for trouble with CG at 4 inches? Need help please. I am ready to see this thing fly. Thanks for the help.

If you can get it up farther, good, but the advertised CG is a little too far forward for some people's tastes. It's a very predictable plane and you'd probably be okay flying it as is.

what engine are you going to use in it?

Kind of a long story - I bought it used and it had a TT 42 on it. I have TT 46 and thought they were the same size (they aren't). I recovered the SE and wished I would have known it then. The SE has a fixed engine mount and a greatplanes mount won't work because the fuel lines are in the way. I didn't want to modify the firewall and mess up the covering job I had done. It is the second covering for me and I happy with the way it turned out. I could have trimmed the engine mount but really didn't want to do that or spend any more money. Soooo I put the 42 back on it. I do not fly 3D so I figured the 42 would do just fine.

RAB,
The kit version's instructions say to put it 3.5" back from the leading edge, which is way to far foward. The CG on mine is just under 5" back from the leading edge and it still lands like a trainer. Do yourself a favor and fly it in its current position before you start fiddling with it. You will see that 4" is plenty stable. If you don't have much experience with aerobatic planes or you're just a little unsure about it, get someone at the field that flies aerobatic planes to give it a test run first. BTW, here's some pics of my SE before I added the wheel pants. It also uses a TT Pro .46. http://personal.mem.bellsouth.net/me.../RC/index.html Tim |
SE Balance
My SE balances at 4 5/16
That is where it has been since the first flight, flies fine, so I can't comment on how it flies balanced by the plans. |

It flies great. I don't get to fly often, so I stay about half rusty all the time. It makes me look like a much better pilot than I really am. It lands like a trainer and is very aerobatic, but not quite as much as a Fazer. It's a good all around fun plane to fly!

I balanced mine a inch behind the wing tube, still plenty docile .
I think yours will be fine, the advice of getting help at the field if you are unsure is very good advice indeed. If you have low rates set them to 1/2 of reccomended on the low and low rates on high. if you are not use to a aerobatic plane it will feel real touchy at first. |
Somthing Extra
:D I have one also and it has a YS-53 supercharged engine on it and it flys just fine for me. Of course I'm goingto have to find some 25% fuel for the engine inorder for it ro run a peak rpm. Iv also pylon raced it and haven't done too bad. :D :D

I have mine at 4.72 and it still dives a bit inverted, which means it can come back farther. It also still lands like a trainer :)
