RE: Endeavor
Hey Dave, wasn't there some discussion going on a while back on this.. I thought there where a couple different guys thinking about tackling it.. I don't remember who right off the top of my head.. That would be a neat plane for sure.

RE: Endeavor
I'm tempted, just something I've never done.
I think a Loki wing would look, and work fine on that fuse. Especially with Bruces CF wheel pants. Although they may be too tall with his mid wing arrangement.
It has some nice big cheek cowls to make a fiberglass cowl, I mean engine cover.
A few more pictures, I love those big rounded filets.

I'm no technical airplane guy, but do you think the Q40 board would require that scoop thing under the engine? The scale requirement seems a bit loose to me on some of the Q40 planes out there.
Also, I would consider a plug if someone was willing to make the molds.

Now you're talking.. That would be cool as hell.. Just use the intake on the bottom as a way to cowl/cover some of the muffler.. As far as the rules are concerned, my Dago's don't much resemmble the real thing so I would think you could get some creative license.. I say it sounds like a good winter project.

You should go for it Dave. The muffler would eliminate the scoop, and all you would need it to dig a tunnel. These mufflers are a lot cleaner than most people realize.
Notice on the full size how long an pointy the front end is compared to older F1 designs? They are using a prop extention of at least 12" off the front of the engine's crankshaft to do it.
Also if you look closely at any full size F1, you will note that the cheek cowls centerlines are below the crankshaft centerline, due to pushrods and induction/exhaust systems. So on a model, tilting the engine slightly to move the pipe into the center should put the engine cylinder in the right place.

RE: Endeavor
The muffler is definately an issue the way the bottom of the nose drops down quite a bit. I don't want to do a channel, I would just skinny it up like everyone else
Looks like I would need to go with the smaller 1 1/2" spinner, but thats fine.
Dang, this could be fun.

RE: Endeavor
One question, the way I read the rules, I can get away with a 5" depth since its not a P-51 or other full scale prototype with belly mounted radiator. Can someone else confirm??

RE: Endeavor
That would be correct Dave, 5" is all the height required.
The rule was changed to it's present form about 5 or 6 years ago to open the event up to designs other than Mustang derivatives. This was neccessary due to all the 'Stang's not conforming to the intent of the rules in regard to maintaining "Cross-sectional contours at the height and width measurements and at stations determining the likeness to the full-scale prototype shall maintain the integrity of the contours in the full size aircraft."

RE: Endeavor
I drew up the side view last night and it looks pretty good. Next I'll draw up the top view, but I'm concerned about computed the cross section measurement without actually making the plug. Thats the kind of math I forgot years ago...

RE: Endeavor
I knew I heard someone was working on it but I couldn't remember who.. Depending on how they go, one of these could be at the top of the must have list..
