polecat - full scale
Hey folks....
I thought I might share this with my racing bretherin......... the 'real' Polecat for your viewing pleasure.... http://www.brcdesign.com/polecat/polecat.html I will hopefully have a chance here shortly to go over and get some more measurements and photos of the plane at the storage facility. Bob |
RE: polecat - full scale
That's actually a different airplane from the Polecat Bruce Dechastel and Dan Kane did for the Q40. I believe the designer of the original had a last name of Prosch (not sure of the spelling) and was from, or at least a few years ago, lived in Vegas. He was also the designer/buider of the Loki, which was very similar to the Polecat but with the landing gear coming out of the wing, rather than the fuse. I'm sure Dan Kane can give more info on the Prosch aiplane.

RE: polecat - full scale
You are right.....there is more than one polecat..... this one flew under this name in 1980.
The one you noted and most are familiar with was race #6 flew back in 1965 and in the 1970's this airframe was originally Rickey Rat and Top Turkey. Dates back a while, and has won a lot of races including Reno and Cleveland. Thought it might be of interest. |
RE: polecat - full scale
What is pictured in that link appears to be a classic Shoestring. The polecat that many refer to is a totally different airplane and if my memory serves correctly, it was lost some time ago. I have some details on it in a reference book somewhere.

RE: polecat - full scale
The picture is of an airplane also called the polecat in name only. It is a completely different in design to the Pole Cat that we know from the formula one days. Bob is right that this one is a Ricky Rat (or what we know as a ricky rat) named polecat. However, my QM design was from a modified cassutt by Erine Prosch and it's correct name is PR-2 (source is R.S. Hirsch). But more commonly known as the polecat. Prosch also did the Loki, and I believe the Loki was the first version and the PR-2 (polecat) was the second.
Prosch's polecat appeared in 1977, therefore I think his is the real polecat since the one pictured above appeared in 1980. Dan |
