Removing carbon

I know this referenced somewhere, since I have seen it, can;t seem to find it now?
What is the best way to clean the carbon from an engine. I have a new Nelson Q40LS I have been running rich through bench break in (about 3/4 gallon) and about 20 flights. When I tore it down it is quite carboned up, wondering the best way to clean without using abrasives. wkevinm |

Grey Scotchbite or 0000 steel wool.

I agree, both are what I use. Only clean the top of the piston and the inside of the head, do not touch the sleeve or side of the piston.

another thing that works very well is dawn power disolver. it is an alkaline oven cleaner that is VERY mild unlike most. i use it to clean my engines both model and my diesel truck piston tops along with intake manifolds. the only thing is do not leave it on for more than 10-15 minutes as it will discoler aluminum. it washes off with water...

I'll second the Never-dull. I read that article a while back, gave it a try, and it works quite well.
