VIper Top Speed
Just a question for all you speed demons out their. How fast do you thik a Hobbico Viper with an OS 46FX and an MACS tuned pipe (their pretuned system for a os 46FX) turning a 9X8 will go in straight and level flight? Couple of buddies calculated their Vipers were doing around 110-120 with just os 46FX's.

RE: VIper Top Speed
There is no need to guess at speeds. If you know the prop pitch and the rpm just do the arithmetic. It is surprising how many claims of "Speed" can be debunked with a simple calculation.
I see you are from St. Catharines, Ontario. Is there some racing activity in that area?.

Ed,
Glad you mentioned the mathematical approach. I have recently developed a line of props with an advanced airfoil that produces negative slippage, i.e., efficiencies of 110% to 130% depending on the series. Simply multiply the in-air rpm by the pitch, in inches, and then add the appropriate negative slippage factor.
These are handcrafted from wood, each one a collector's item, add the finish of your choice. From $19.95 for the basic "110" series, and up from there of course ... supplies are limited, so act today!

Louisville Smuggler,
I am glad you appreciate the mathematical approach. I must mention though that it is impossible to get 110% or more of anything. 100% is 100% and that is it. All of our much worshipped, overpaid sports "Hero's" who promise to give 110% to help the Team should take a course in simple arithmetic.

Actually you can get 110%. Since most props are pitched using the flat bottom of the blade and a blade would have some thrust at a measured 0 pitch. But you knew that already, didn't ya Ed? I agree about the athletes always giving 110%. BSBSBS!

Not true, Ed. Exceeding 100% is not limited to Smuggler's 130% props and 110% athletes. I can set the travel adjustments on my JR radio to 150%. Also, Spinal Tap's amps went to 11.

RE: VIper Top Speed
Folks need to quit looking at props like a screw going through wood and start looking at it for what it is, a wing with a zero lift line that is maybe 1 to 3 degrees above the so called pitch line
