back plate mount
What are the advantages of the back plate mounting system and is it worth the cost? If so, which would you recommend for a Dominator 500 kit w/TT .46? Also, I'm using the Tower muffler turning an APC 8.8x8.75 at 15,600. Would a Jett or P/S muffler give me much of an increase and, again, be worth the the extra cost (in your opinion)?
Thanks

RE: back plate mount
advantages:
I have several quickies with all the same bolt pattern that I can use my flush mounts with. I can use different motors with this system.
It looks cleaner.
You save a little weight
Don't know if you gain RPM. just a "cleaner" look.
Disadvantages:
Making the jump to flush mounts when you have a normal one in you hand.
Bolt pattern different from brand to brand.
If your just dabbling with quickies I woun't worry about the flush mount unless you want to.
The tower muffler is cheap speed. The other mufflers will give alittle more for alot more money
Put it together and go fly

RE: back plate mount
there are definite advantages of a backplate mount depending on your usage.
There is a weight saving. A beam mount is just a backplate mount with beams.
In some cases the small area of the regular mount will 'Bed" into the glass on the firewall.
The engine is set back against the firewall, not hanging out front and shaking.
If you are intending to do a lot of engine swapping, make up a 2 1/4 square plate of aluminum to suit every engine. Screw them to the engines without removing the rear cover. One common set of holes in the mounts and firewall and the rest is easy.

RE: back plate mount
All the the Nelson backplate mounts fit both Nelsons and TT 40 pro's... I don't know if the TT 46 is the same case as the 40... but if it is... then this type of mount is one size fits all. All my planes have the same firewall holes making engine swaps is a 2 minute operation.

The Jett and Nelson mounts will fit fine in the TT Pro .40. You cannot use them in the TT Pro .46 because the bottom of the piston will hit the mount before reaching BDC. The stock backplate on both the TT Pro .40 and .46 is relieved on the top. LCS Performance has some nice mounts that bolt on the back of the stock backplate that you can use on the .40 or .46.
By the way, what club are you flying out of in the Milwaukee area? There is a good group of guys racing with TT Pro .40s in Wisconsin and Illinois.

I was just going to add what Bernie said. You can order the mounts from Jett with a milled recess on top similar to the stock backplate, for use with a TT 46. I suspect PSpec will do the same.

Hello,
If you are looking for one that will add on to youe existing one, go to WWW.LCSPERFORMANCE.COM Find Lewis' email address on there and ask him. I know he has them and they are pretty cheap. Tell him David says hi.
