Default CG

Spencer, For most Wood Q500's, 2 1/2" from the LE is normally the best place to start with and then adjust after your initial flight tests by shifting the battery around.

Its always better to start off NOSE heavy than to have one thats tail heavy

Default Doddger CG

I built a Doddger a couple years ago and as luck would have it I couldn't find my old plans. Found half of them, but not the half needed. After removing a year of dust from the wing I found CG tick marks at 2.5, 2.6, 2.8 and 3 inches aft of the LE. Don't remember any significant CG sensitivity. If really interested, Direct Connection R/C phone number is 1-800-593-5250. Good luck.

I just measured the C.G. off of a set of Doddger plans, and they have it marked at 2 3/8" from the L.E.

If you are using a sport .40 - .46 this is where I would start.

Elevator and Ailerons

low rate 1/4" both ways
High rate 3/8" both ways

Rudder 1" both ways is plenty.

If you are using a Jett or Nelson .40 this is where I would start

Elevator and Ailerons

Low Rate 3/16" both ways
High rate 3/8" both ways

Rudder 1" both ways is plenty. I typically adjust so that full right rudder on takeoff keeps the plane perfectly straight until its off the ground.

You should be able to take off and trim out the plane on low rates, but you will want to switch to high rates after you cut the engine for landing.

These throws have worked well for a starting point on just about every quickee I have ever owned.

Default V-Tail

Thanks Dave. So would you say with a V-Tail set-up, high rate should be around 1" and low rate 3/8"? Thanks.

Default Dodger

The designer of this airplane is Craig Grunkemeyer, his number is in the NMPRA newsletter and CAPS newsletter. I'm sure he would be happy to answer any questions regarding the Dodger.

On the otherhand, I'm not sure he would wan't his number posted on this forum so I will refrain from the number. If you are not a NMPRA or CAPS member E-Mail me and I will give it to you.

Spence,

With a V-tail setup, you would use the same throws I have listed above, except you would not use the 1" rudder throws.

With your engine I would set up each elevator half to move:

1/4" both ways on Low rates
3/8" both ways on High rates

This will be plenty of throw if all your incidences are correct, and the C.G. is in the right spot.
