Default Any northern California Q500 races?

I would like to try my hand at racing, does anyone know of any Norcal clubs that put on 424 races? I know there is some warbird stuff. maybe that's the way to go. I've been checking all the clubs event calenders I can find, but I only see q500 races down south.

There are some local club 424 races at Livermore, but nothing official. Other than that, there is a big race in Medford , Oregon in August each year and then 4-5 races in Los Angles. We have Q-500 Winterfest coming in January at Phoenix which gets about 75 pilots +/- each year.

As for the Warbird Races, the only races that are active are the Sacramento races. I will be putting on a Warbird race in May 2006 at Morgan Hill. We do have a large group of racers racing the T-34 Triangle Series which is a 2 pylon sport class. There is a 6 race series which this year gave away over $4,000 in prizes.

Give me a call if you have any questions. I fly most classes of pylon including Q-500, Quarter 40, Warbird, T-34 and a few years ago Giant Scale.

As Kevin mentioned, EBRC (Livermore) hosts monthly club Q500 races during the summer.
Typically 6 to 12 pilots in 424 and 2 to 4 pilots in 428. These are informal
"race what you brought" type races and non-flying pilots would typically work the
course. If your interested in experiencing the thrill of trying to fly a
smooth/tight three pole pylon course with and additional 1, 2 or 3 other planes in your field
of view, come on out to the next EBRC club race. Unfortunately the EBRC club
racing season is over except for one more race Nov 26 (I think). This is a
relaxed, helpful, fun group to race with. Half the pilots are sport flyer's
who just enjoy the fun of three pole pylon racing and the other half are
people practicing for the next Western Pylon Racing Series race. If you want
I can get you in on a e-mail list which will keep you in the loop on when/time for these races Also, don't need to be a club member to race.

My e-mail is [email protected] if you could put me on the list that would be great. I was thinking about next year. I don't have a Q500 plane, but now that I know there are some races I'll probably put one together. Lanier tt40 or something. Do they race 3 pylon in livermore or two? or do they ever race Q500 on three? I'm new to this. I've never even tried flying a coarse before.

All AMA 0.40 size pylon racing is a three pole course. The Livermore club races are on a three pole course. This includes APRA (AMA 424), Q500 (AMA 428) and Q40 (AMA 422). Again AMAC is a good place to bring a practice plane and get your feet wet flying a 3 pole course. I can help with any questions anytime. I'll be out there this Saturday and Sunday 08:00 to 10:00 sorting out some lingering Q500 issues.
