Nelson Q500
I bought a Nelson Engine from an eBay auction and I'm unable to find any site to buy parts or even get a manual (if one exists). Does anyone know where I can buy a carberator or anything for Nelson Engines. Google isn't helping.
Thanks.

RE: Nelson Q500
He sells a ring that takes up the height of the new style carb.
Hey ranger, you found the Internet home of Nelson users, throw us the questions, we'll get you going.
Try nmpra.org too
If your looking for a regular carb that will idle and such I beleive a ST .90 carb fits, but if I'm wrong someone will jump in

Assuming a ST 90 carb in a Nelson Q-500, how many rpm would the engine end up turning. I know the engilne would be restricted by the st carb, any carb for that matter, but what would she turn?

I put a Perry carb on one of my Nelson Q500 motors so I could have a motor that idled so I could safley launch the plane
alone. Per Spec does not have an adapter ring to make the new carbs fit the older engines. Try here
http://www.perrypumps.com/prod01.htm
Do not get the pump style carb, when you order the carb, be sure and tell them that you need the adapter sleeve that they sell for $12.00 to go with the carb. To make the carb fit, you will have to grind part of the carb away to get it to slide down into the engine. Then cut a groove for the spray bar. Use hi temp silicone sealer around the carb when you install it.
My Nelson runs great on the Perry carb, only down about 200 rpm and it will idle all day at a low enough speed that it won't
move sitting on the black top runway at T.I.M.P.A. in Tucson.

RE: Nelson Q500
Good info Jerry, when I won my motor last summer I had Dave sell me a carb too, I told him it was for an old motor and it came with the ring.
Maybe there all gone, oh well.
Don't choke on the nice weather down there ...

Maybe you have more "pull" with Mr. Shadel, I ordered 3 carbs from him in Dec. and asked for spacers and at that time he said none we available. This morning I flew my Q500
at T.I.M.P.A. and then flew my electric this afternoon in the RV park, I realy wish all the NCPL members could be here 70 degrees and 7 mph wind

RE: Nelson Q500
Jerry,
Do you know of anyone who has ran a Perry carb on a Nelson Q40 engine?
I am about to run my first Q40 engine and got a Perry carb for it, only to discover that the spigot on the Perry carb was about 1/8" short. That carb is on its way back to Conley Engines to get a new spigot fitted.
Can anyone suggest a locking bar from another engine that can be used with a Perry carb in a Nelson Q40 engine?

If you have a newer Nelson Q40 motor with a long neck in the crancase for the carb, the model Perry carb I put on my Nelson will not fit.
My Perry carb fits the old style short neck crankcase. The Nelson spray bar will hold the Perry carb in place, leave the Nelson needle valve out.

Jerry,
Do you have to plug the Nelson spray bar to prevent leakage into the crankcase?
Can you comment on how the Q40 engine will either idle or throttle down on one of the latest Perry carbs?
Thanks again

I am at Desert Trails RV Park southwest of Tucson. I am leaving here Feb 13 to visit friends at the Escapees RV park in congress AZ then to the Q40 race about the 20th of Feb.
Glad to hear you are going south for awhile this winter.
